What does it mean to you? How do you define it in the world and in relationships?

Believing a person and knowing that they won't do something stupid to undermine the relationship.

Trust should be a quality in you, not a relationship. You trust someone cos' he is trust-worthy: this is not trust !

There is no dignity in it , there is no glory in it. he IS trustworthy - so you HAVE to trust him.
Trust - as a quality - whether the other is trustworthyor not ; whether the other deceives you or not , it should not make any difference in your trust. Your joy should be in "trusting " itself. It should be intrinsic, it should not be dependent on the other !

to me, it means that you can rely on the other person to do what is in your best interest should a situation arise. This doesn't mean that the person should neglect themselves, but the person should take you into consideration when making a decision. It's kinda hard to define w/o using the word trust though.

Kind of a broad question isn't it?

I don't know if I trust posting information of so personal a nature at OT....

If I trust you totally and you're in my inner circle (a very small group) ,it means you've got my support and backing in matters large and small, this includes time, physical energy and fiscal resources. I'll even smackdown others who insult you, if I think you were wrong I'll tell you about it in private but in general your enemy becomes mine as well

The reason I posted this is because people will tell me that they "trust" me yet I can't see how. Even if I am best friend's with someone I still have doubts about things they do. I don't trust myself either.

More guys than girls actually. I have an easier time trusting girls for some odd reason. Really I would say 60/40 guys to girls.

Trusting someone has a lot of components. Trust may involve being confident that I can tell them anything about myself without expecting judgment or a negative reaction, safe to be me with those people. It also may involve those people doing things I might not like in my best interest, as someone else said.
Trust has a lot to do with confidence, I'd say. You're confident someone will keep your secret or not, that's trusting them with a secret. You're confident they'll accept you as yourself or not, that's trusting them with who you are. You're confident that they'll call you on things when you're wrong, that's trusting their judgment. List could probably go on for quite a while.

Trust is being able to go to sleep on a submarine, *hundred feet below the oceans surface knowing that the guys operating the ship are more than capable of keeping you, the crew and the boat safe. Trust is being deployed on said submarine for months at a time, knowing that the wife you left behind is taking care of your kids, your house, etc. and is remaining ever faithful to you.
