Question What does updating the bios of an Asus TUF Plus get me?

Buying the TUF Plus b450M but I wonder what I get if I immediately update the bios. Some owners swear that should be the first thing you do. I think that means update Bios first, then install your OS, then either W10 Pro 64b will update it's drivers itself or you need to do that. Does update the Bios from Asus site also update (firmware?) for the chipset?

Also, if any owner knows, I've read that this board does not have the triangle in the cpu mount to show orientation. I think it's usually one of the two "upper" corners. Anyone know which is correct? I thought the cpu would only insert one way anyway.

Yes, it's good practice to update the BIOS first in a new build, before you install any other software. You will still need to install chipset drivers and all other drivers.

It really doesn't matter when you update the BIOS. Also, most motherboard manufacturers recommend to not update the BIOS unless you are experiencing an issue (or the update has security updates or fixes a performance issue).

Outside of that, Windows 10 installs most drivers needed for things like the chipset, but it usually is an older version. You can always download updated chipset drivers directly from the motherboard manufacturer's website, or directly from AMD.

Well, yes and no.

If the BIOS updates the ACPI tables or versions, Windows needs to generally be prompted to re-detect those settings, as it configures itself during installation to those settings.

But other than that, I agree with you.

So I'll skip the bios update, check ram speed & config boot order, install OS and let it update drivers. Then check all port functionality & I guess that other memory slots work. Then I can look into updating the chipset drivers (once I understand Asus bios backup/revert).

Then I think I'm done and can work on moving data, BU situation. Can't think of anything else.
