What does your computer sit on?

I have mine sitting on the carpeted floor. It's filled with dust/dirt/dog hair. I'm thinking about building a little stand for it but I'm wondering what other people do. Thanks!

DaneGuy, i voted 'other' because i put mine in one of those heavy wire racks that has casters so it can roll. I have 2 pc's, 3 printers and a scanner along with dsl modem, router, usb hub and external hdd's on it also. it is parked right next to my desk so all the cables reach.

Mine sits on the carpet. You may want to consider purchasing air filters that attach to your fans, or you can fabricate some using a bounce sheet, air condition filter, panty hose, or other assorted material.

My desk came with a stand, but it will not accomodate the tower where I want it located. I have been thinking of building a stand also, but more for raising the height of the tower, than for the dirt problem.

I put mine on my desk to help reduce the amount of dust that accumulates. Plus I have a window so I like looking at my rig

Number one sits on my four drawer filing cabinet..... so I can see the pretty lights the second is on a stand I built to keep it as far from the dusty carpet as possible. It also makes it easer to reach the connectors and drives both are connected to my Dell fp1907 and each has its own key board adn mouse one set in a drawer.

I guess it's kind of like a stand... there's a layer of MDF between the carpet and my computer that's on the bottom layer of my desk.

Mine is on a VERY cheap tile floor. It is considerably louder than where I had it at my previous residence where it was sitting on carpet.

My main sytem is sitting on an Office Deport "milk create," that tends to be used for filing. I use it to keep the system from sitting directly on the carpeted floor with hopes of getting less dust/dirt inside.

My soon to be replaced computer sits on a homemade 2 1/2" high skid with castors on the bottom, for easy access to the back side panel. Most of my junque is homemade... don't even get me started about my dual printer desktop stand.

My wife's new Conroe box, which is my first build, sits on a stained poplar plank on the bottom of a steel framed corner type computer desk. Both computers are over carpeting, but the wife's machine will be over hardwood as soon as I can get it changed.

When I finish my own new Conroe Christmas gift, I'll consider building a wall mounted swing arm hanger for the box, to get it higher up in my little computer room. I hate being unable to access my computer's guts... same for TV, sound system, and satellite boxes. I don't like the dust, but difficult access is just unacceptable. At my age, higher mounting means easier access, so higher is always better.

Pictures?

I'm thinking of building something to get it off the ground.

I've been looking online for stands but they are all only about 2 inches off the ground. I want to get it at least 6" off the ground. Anyone seen one like this?

mine sits on the carpeted floor, with the LCD monitor sitting on top to the computer. I use a reclining lazy boy love seat as my computer chair

Mine has acoustic feet about 1 thick, and they sit on the carpet.

It also has an air filter about 6 1/2" square situated between the two layers of the air intake.

If it's still spotless in side in a few years I'll know this works.

Mine sits on the carpet, but not directly, it sits on a flat wooden keyboard stand placed on the carpet, which I took out from my very old desk

Back when I had my tower, it sat on the dorm room floor and ran 24/7, picking up incredible amounts of dust. I'm surprised the front case fans kept spinning -- I had them undervolted to 5 volts. I took great pains to make it a quiet system.

I'm laptop-livin' now, though. My Gateway laptop is quieter than my desktop. Its power button also matches the volume knob on my Harman Kardon receiver, and I like that.

My gaming box sits in the spot provided for it, inside of my computer hutch. My backup/Linux box sits about two inches away from it, on one of these: PC Skate. It's about 1½" high, and happens to be the exact width of my Antec case that it's holding up. It not only keeps it off of the carpet, it has wheels, so pulling it out to be able to reach the cords takes maybe one second.
