What effects a mouse's performance?

I have a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical with a refresh rate or 6000 images/sec and a resolution of 400 cpi. I'm thinking of betting a Logitech Cordless Click Plus which has a refresh rate of only 2000 images/sec but a resolution of 800 cpi. Assuming the lag from the wireless connection of the Logitech is negligable, which mouse would give me better precision? Should I stick with the Microsoft with a higher refresh rate or would I get better precision with a higher resolution from the Logitech and sacrifice refresh rate? I plan on using it for everthing from office apps to gaming (UT2004, SC, etc)?

I was afraid I would hate any wireless mouse or keyboard. Then I tried logitech elite duo. Now I am sure I hate everything wireless. The lag is a joke, to me. Absolutely intolerable.

But I'm sure many other people love theirs!

I've used the logitech wireless mx series for a couple of years and have had no problem gaming. I love them and wouldn't use anything else.

I've had a mx700 and just upgraded to the mx1000

from what I understand you just get used to it ( I am stil a cord guy). Similar to euro players on North American servers play well with higher pings. After talking to a few of them they said they can't play on euro servers because their ping is too low. (The game was americas army).

I personally feel wireless is horrible as far as gaming is concerned however if you got the money to lay down people say the mx1000 ain't bad.

Most reviews of the MX series wireless mice (MX700, MX1000) have just been extremely positive about how good the wireless technology is in these mice.

LMFAO!

i love people who say wireless performance is horrible and/or a joke. there is absolutly no loss of performance between quality wireless and a wired mouse. i've used both the touted "best gaming mouse" mx510 and the mx700. i prefer the mx700. performance wise? no difference.

its other factors. the mx700 is noticably heavier. was wierd at first, but now i like the weight. the largest other factor is human perception. "how could a wireless mouse every be as good as one with a cord?" mentality. how could a cordless phone every be as good as a corded phone? its peoples perception that taint their view or opion on wireless mice.

purhaps when wireless first came out, there might have been performance issues with wireless mice, but if any such problems have long been solved.

don't let other people's opion affect your choice. decide for yourself, get one, try it yourself and see if you like it. if you don't, simply return the mice. easy as that.

And BTW NEVER EVER put your mouse/keyboard on the USB ports unless you HAVE TO. Meaning you shouldn't choose USB of PS/2 because of the lag/performance problems with USB. PS/2 has native drivers practically back to Dos 5.0 so I don't understand why some just plug it into the USB port. Put it in the PS/2 port and it should NEVER EVER lag. If it lags, the whole computer is lagging. ON USB if it's lagging, it's the USB thats lagging and not necessarily the computer.

"What effects a mouse's performance?"

How much cheese they get in them, and if they use any 'enhancement' type drugs.

I'll have to agree with mr bojangles here...

The only reason mobo's still come with the old PS2 ports is because too many people either have old keyboards/mice that they continue to use, or they get the cheap PS2 keyboards and mice with their new (CHEAP!) computers. Just like how the mobo's STILL have a parallel port even though every new printer (and those produced over the past few years) have been USB. If people would refresh their aged technology a bit faster, then those ports would be gone from systems. As they should be.

As much as many windows users love to bash Apple, at least they took a stand with standards when it comes to many things. Some of those having to do with ports. A while back (around 2000) they ditched the old adb port (used for keyboards and mice once upon a time) and the floppy drive. They fully embraced USB (1.1 at the time) and FireWire ports. While pc companies were using the slower USB ports on their systems, Apple jumped onto it at full port speed (at the time 12Mbps). They also made standard the 6 pin connection for FireWire (or ieee1394a). You can STILL find laptops that only have the 4 pin port. That means you have to connect FireWire drives and such to a power source in order to use them. The 6 pin connection/cable carries power on the two spare pins/wires. Apple was involved in the development of FireWire (ieee1394a and b) but it's not theirs alone. That's why you find it on other systems. While they did coin the term 'FireWire' and might have even copywrited it, it's become a recognized term for that connection type.

What did that have to do with this thread?? Not 100% sure, but it does point out how one company can take a stand, drop old techologies down the crapper and survive. If computer makers would do the same, on the pc/windows side, then the world would be a better place. Hell, they could probably even drop the old serial ports from systems and either add more USB connections, another ethernet port, or make 6 pin ieee1394a (and/or b) standard on all pc's.

I had been gaming with my MX700 for quite some time. I recently purchaced an MX510 because prices are prety decent. I think I like the MX700 more even though it is heavier. The cord just seems to get in the way. I don't experience any lag with the MX700. I find my MX510 sitting on my desk, not plugged in.
