what ever happen to the 7600?

Reading old news on the video forum, there was an article on the 7600 and 7200?

Were these scrapped?

Tweakers.net has some pics on the GeForce 7600 GT and GS cards slated for launch in mid March. GeForce 7600 GS has 8 pipelines and 3VS and is clocked at 500MHz core and 1GHz memory while the 7600GT has 12 pipelines and 5 VS clocked at 500/1000MHz too. A preliminary testing done by 3DNews.ru revealed that a 7600GS will outperform a GeForce 6600GT by some 10-15%. We have also heard that a GeForce 7600GT will score around 4.8-5.2K on 3DMark05, similar to that of the ATi X1600XT but gaming performance should be higher.

I have a feeling that the final products will be higher clocked as the mid range market is much more important than the high end. But NV is doing really well stop leaking info about the cards Specs.. a little too well.

How many VS does the 6600GT have? The 7600GT sounds like it may be a pretty good deal.

More like the 6800GS. I dont think the X1600XT is that popular. The 6800GS however has been selling like hotcakes.

what about system builders/oem? x1600xt has more 'x's and 't's so it must be better

Well, X1600XT ain't gonna be that popular, not with cards like X800GTO and 6800GS in the same price segment, so it's hardly a loss to NVidia that the 7600 series are 'late' when they have a perfectly capable card to fill that gap.
