What exactly is a midlife crisis?

its when you find, in your late thirties or early forties, that something that satisfied you up to this point, sex with spouse or job, no longer is satisfying, so you go looking. and finding. usually you find that life is set up where you get much more grief than satisfaction, .... well, maybe not much more.

It's when usually a guy (sometimes women) goes nuts, buys some cowboy boots, a fancy sports car, and tries to date 18 year olds.

Seriously, from what I understand a person will reach their 40's and something kinda snaps. Perhaps they look at themselves and they wonder if they could have done more. For them is, a wife, a home in the suburbs, 2 kids, 2 cars, mid level executive job, enough. Some people get a couple of expensive material things and they're happy. Some go totally nuts and leave everything. It tends to vary from person to person. For some they may spend a couple of minutes pondering and move on, others may like need to be hospitalized.
