It's not always from how you talk, sometimes it's how your voice sound. It's rare you come across a white dude who sounds like Barry White. I can be on the phone with a client talking about fixing their computer. 7/10 times when I go and meet them for the 1st time I get "you sound black on the phone" and I have to imagine 1 or 2 of the remaining 3 were probably thinking it. I've literally gotten this a thousand times in my life if not more.

I like to ask why, and usually I get "your voice is too deep for a white guy"

To them it sounds like you are speaking like a slave driver, but to anyone that matters you sound educated.

It is extremely difficult switching to ebonics when talking to family members who talk like the only know the first 13 letters of the alphabet.

It's not because they sound intelligent, it's how they sound speaking. If they sound like Tiger Woods they'll get it. Tiger gets it all the time, and he never says anything particularly intelligent. Barry White wouldn't get the same comment even if he was reading a book on Quantum Physics.

This happens just in anglo societies where different castes have different accents.
Blacks natives here sound just like the whites.

As for the voice itself, blacks have a deep voice most of the time, whites usually not.
