I thankfully only got 1 extra order come in. I was starting to worry I was going to get as many orders as the amount of times I tried to hit submit.

Sometimes, the old fashioned way of just freaking calling is easier lol.

The one near me imported South Asian temporary foreign workers for the whole kitchen...

In all seriousness you (obviously) don't have to be Italian to cook great Italian food.... but it sure helps IME!

I prefer my sushi made by old Japanese guys too!

"Authentic" $ethnicity food's a lame standard anyway. Nothing was authentic til it was adopted and made "authentic". A double bacon carbonara is as authentically Italian as anything with tomato and chili is.

Been fighting with Citrix all morning. App starts to load, then it just stalls, and never actually loads. At one point I got one app to start but while trying to get the other one to start I lost everything and now I'm back to square one. What a pita. 90% of my job is fighting with keeping apps open. Every couple years there's a project to try to consolidate apps, then nothing actually comes of it, and we end up with more apps instead lol.

Some people have no tastebuds.

I have driven by a small town near me and chuckled at the sign proclaiming "Authentic Canadian and Chinese food"

He’s serious and also correct.

Oh lordy so just slap a name on it and it's authentic. That's absolutely Not true and it's also kind of silly to say

Authentic food is not fancy food. But if you think everything called Italian food by these chain marketing restaurants or other places is anywhere near authentic, Well I got a bridge to sell you.

Also you don't need world-class chefs to have authentic or good food. Those two things are completely separate things . I just had hand pulled noodles in a little tiny hole in the wall joint made by a little old Uighur Grandma who barely speaks English. Served on a plastic plate and a bottle of water , Poland spring . Nothing fancy about her. But that was authentic.

I just had a cup of nice Turkish coffee and Karak Tea with a couple of cupcakes. The tea I got coz I had never tasted Turkish coffee before so I didn't want my mood to be ruined if the coffee turned out to be crap. But both were pretty good. This should be a reverse First World problem but I had to walk pretty far from my villa to get them. I would have preferred to go there in a golf cart. Living in the First World without a golf cart at hand sucks. And if I did get a golf cart, my next wish would be for it to be self driving. And if I get that too, I'm pretty sure my mind will think of something to be dissatisfied again.

That’s not what he was saying, just the opposite, in fact.

Look I don't give a shit if someone likes Olive garden, eat whatever you want. But it's a microwaved perversion of Italian food.

All food doesn't have to be authentic by any means. Plenty of food is great that can be an adaptation, fusion, or just a new creation. But it's certainly not wrong to call out when it's not. Authentic or just good food doesn't have to be cooked by world-class chefs either. Most of it isn't.

It can be cooked by an immigrant in a taco cart, or buy a local non trained chef who bought a little hole in the wall joint. Or someone in the south who's perfected being a pit master just by doing it. So much great food is made by people that have no formal training. That was nonsensical too, squirrel type.

People can eat whatever they like I don't give a shit but it's dumb to say that double carbonara and the shit on a lot of these chain restaurant menus of any kind is authentic anything.

It can still be tasty to you and to me just call it what it is. I don't think that's so difficult.

@sdifox figured out what he meant.

Yeah what we call a certain type of food here, is not actually the same as that country, it's been westernized and it's just accepted as being whatever we call it. I don't think what we call Chinese food here is even close to what they eat in China either.

Also TIL there is a national pasta association.

Everything we know is a lie:

And Panera Bread mostly microwaves their hot food. (I thought that was Olive Garden)

Olive Garden is just terrible though. I went to one once because my ex wanted to go. There was a freaking line to get in, we waited. First and last time.

And Olive Garden mostly microwaves their hot food. There is very little cooking done in an Olive Garden.
It's essentially all sous-vide now. Even Panera Bread does it:

Kinda hard to get fresh foods & consistent flavor across hundreds or thousands of chains if you don't freeze & vac-seal!
