I remember when I got fibre (50mbs in my case) and was so excited at that kind of speed and saturated it for a bit but ultimately ran out of things to download. I can't imagine gig connection! Could backup my entire web server like it was a local machine, pretty crazy to think about. I can get up to 250mbps but they don't offer anything higher. I think the tech they use goes up to about 900mbps.

Grabbed a couple Gray's Papaya dogs. Now walking to the bar, I see a Charles Pan fried chicken spot from Harlem opened up on the same block! Been wanting to try that chicken! Kinda sad. But good to see it open down here

I was supposed to get a FedEx delivery yesterday, but they just left a note on my door that I have to be home to receive it. Weird, since I've never had to before; it's just a book from a place I've ordered from a bunch of other times, and FedEx has always left packages on my porch.

Apparently they'll retry on Monday. When I'll, you know, be at work...

I have this sort of pretend weather station thing. It has an outside temp and humidity sensor only, no rain or wind.

Every once in a while, for no apparent reason, it will lose 20 minutes. Not 2, 5, 7, 16, 33 or any other number ... 20 exactly. So far two or three times in a year or so.

I have it wall mounted and I have to reach over some stuff to get to it, so it's a bit annoying.

I wanted to review the brilliant prose I left for my various amazon reviews, but can't find an easy way to get to them. Typing a query into the search box gives me an ai tip that's unhelpful. It directs me to the blackhole of my profile, and to a section that doesn't appear to exist, though through a mysterious process of clicks, I did find something with that name, but without the content I'm looking for.

Not sure if I'm getting old and stupid, or if amazon's system is fucked, but I've spent waaay more time on this than it deserves. I'm just in it now to find an answer.

edit:
Ok, I got my answer. I turned off uBlock, and apparently a setting was blocking the section ai said was there. Annoying that you have to run security software just to use the modern web, and things can silently fail while you're trying to prevent yourself from getting fucked.

Barely a problem at all, but what the hell...

Wrote out a shopping list, then when I got to the shop found I couldn't read my own handwriting. Spent several minutes trying to decode what the hell all these indecipherable squiggles were supposed to mean. Got particularly stuck on "Icky dude". Did I really need one of those? (or had I experienced a disturbing moment of self-awareness?)

It was either that or "icy cliche" (eventually remembered it was meant to be "1kg chicken")

I sometimes consider doing paper lists, I usually use my phone but it's actually kind of a pita. Every time I pull it out to check I need to unlock it, then fiddle around to get to the list. With paper, you pull it out, look at it, put it away. I have a ESC/POS printer I bought years back for a project that never happened, I sometimes think of purposing it for making shopping lists.

Right?

Google keep notes. I can just ask Google to add x to my grocery list or x to my Costco list and voila. Great when I'm in the kitchen cooking with my hands dirty and I see something I need to pickup or refill soon.

I'm not sure why people have issues with their phones being locked. There are various settings to keep it unlocked when at home or when connected to certain devices, etc...iPhone face detection is great - The P8Pro has face detection, it does not have the IR scanner like the iPhone but it works really well in good light to even an impressive level of low light. In the very low light, it will fail. Considering how customizable Android is, my note list is super accessible with two quick taps on my home screen. Way faster than finding a pen and paper.

Kind of a related FWP since we don't use the pen that much these days. When I do have to write something on paper, I kinda feel relieved that I still remember how to write! Imagine putting pen to paper and not really figuring out how to move the pen to make the character you want to write. Actually, I think this happened to me once. I wrote something and it just looked really weird so I kept writing it out and crossing it out on that same paper until I got it right and then wrote everything down on a new piece of paper.

I think a lot of us (old people) are not that good with mobile technology. I for one straight out admit to everyone that I'm not good with phones. Phones and printers. They seem kinda alien to me. Always frustrate me way more than using a PC.

Yeah I'm In my late '40s so I am starting to feel some of that age, so I feel you. But if you're into tech there are some things that are still pretty simple with phones, and making lists is one of them. And especially people here who are younger and in IT, I mean they have no excuses.

Only got a dumbphone with reluctance, because people kept on at me about not being able to contact me at any time about all sorts of trivial crap. Cannot be bothered with the expense of a smartphone. Not to mention a whole fresh set of anxieties about security and hacking. Or just being mugged for it.

Plus I hate 'typing' on those stupid teeny-weeny keypads. Now if I could get a full-size PC keyboard and attach it to the phone (and carry it about with me in a backpack, I guess?), maybe I'd consider it.

In theory it's much quicker/simpler to scrawl down what I want to get on a bit of paper, than to try and use my thumbs with a stupid phone keypad. Just that it turns out my handwriting is appalling.

Not sure how serious you are, but you can definitely hook a keyboard to a phone. You could even have mouse! I got a bluetooth keyboard to use at work, but it wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be. Felt like more effort to dick with that than dick with the on screen keyboard.

I'm with you on thumb typing on phones. I have big fat thumbs, which is why I use the swiping method of typing. Sometimes I have to type in certain words but in general, the swiping works great. and for grocery lists, I'm often adding to those at home, and I can just tell my assistant to add this or that.

Even dumbphones have note taking capabilities. And no, no one is hacking your phone to get your grocery list.

I used to have a Samsung phone with a slide out qwerty keyboard. Probably still somewhere in the house.

Must be a really rough part of town/city where you live.

Typing on a smartphone is surprisingly quick thanks to autocorrect/suggestive words that appear (mostly typing in Whatsapp). I have a Moto Edge 30. Not a bad phone. UI is pretty snappy and Thinkshield seems to give me some piece of mind that I won't get hacked.

Edge 30 Neo has it and it's available for 200 GBP (about as much as I paid for my slightly used Edge 30).

The Diet Mountain Dew doesn't taste the same anymore.

The FDA is considering banning brominated vegetable oil, the key to keeping the orange juice floating in the fizz.

The shifter cable for my truck broke in the Home Depot parking lot. Couldn't shift into drive. Had to get it towed to the mechanic. He's pretty busy so might be a week or two. At least this happened on a day off... would have sucked if it was in my own driveway, when I'm trying to get to work. I'll just need to walk for my next shifts once I do start work again. At least the weather is nicer now.

After all that, it's almost 5pm and I'm just now finally having my morning coffee. lol.

Maybe some woke transgender criminal cut it in the parking lot.

Looked out the window this morning and I couldn't help but notice that our office building was surrounded by police officers. My spidey sense suggested that maybe things weren't going too well. Things definitely took a turn for the worse when one officer started pounding on my window. Our newest employee had set off the silent alarm while trying to let a slightly less newish employee into the building. The other employee told the new employee that there was a button at the reception desk that opened the front door. There isn't.
