I use tapioca starch for coating meat to fry. So the starch comes with a clear outer bag secured with tape. No problem remove tape. Then the top of the bag is heat sealed. But the bottom of the bag is folded then taped.

Shouldn't they just flip the bag around when printing and have the top open? The clear one can just be tape sealed from bottom if they are worried about leakage.

WTF...

Way back in the dawn of time, 1999 to be precise, my predecessors installed a skimmer well in someone's backyard as part of an underground storage tank cleanup. In order to save money, the company talked the homeowner into allowing it to power the skimmer through the house's electric panel. The company agreed to pay the homeowner's entire electric bill for the duration as a way to grease the skids. The project wrapped up in 2001 and the well was plugged and abandoned. The company kept paying the electric bill until last month. The homeowner sold the house years ago and the new owner saw no reason to rock the boat.

What is the benefit of using tapioca starch vs cornstarch?

Had a power bump at work, it was a pretty hard one, lots of bangs and pops and weird stuff happened. It ended up locking up my whole PC as well, cursor and all was frozen. Guess the UPS did not pickup fast enough and the PC took on the surge. Had to power cycle it so just spent the last half hour reloading everything.

We were better setup at the old building, we were on -48v inverter power so didn't get any interruption at all. Funny enough that's just what I'm working on setting up at my house for my server rack and workstation. I did have a similar incident while working from home once where one of my monitors flickered when the power hit. Standby UPSes don't seem to always work 100%, they let stuff through sometimes. Most general purpose relays take around 16ms to switch, that's roughly a whole AC cycle.

The content management system at the local newspaper needs a bit of work. It has started reissuing old articles as new and changing the date lines. I saw a headline about a local controversy and thought, “this thing is back from the grave?” The events and story were from 2006 but the publication date was reset to today.

There is something comforting when people in different departments can share your frustration about some new system or policy or other corporate BS thing. We can all be frustrated together as a happy family!

We have tons of ticketing systems used for different purposes and they keep changing them every few years so always have to learn a new system. So many departments have just given up on this fiasco now. "just send us an email". I make the ticket anyway because they do track that, but I don't blame them for not wanting to bother with dealing with yet another system. Half of people's logins don't even work either and they've gotten nowhere on trying to resolve it.

There was one particular system called Maximo (we called it Mexico) made by IBM, that lasted about 1 year and got scrapped. What a piece of shit that was! Like 10 different steps to make a ticket. People just gave up using it altogether. Pretty sure I was the only person using it near the end, and possibly even doing it properly. Anytime you'd mention it to another department it was like "oh that piece of shit? Yeah just send the details in an email, thanks".

Need to do some roof work. Put metal roof on part of the garage I couldn't do before. You nail 1 x 4s on the exisiting roof, then screw the metal panels to those. Get everything set up, scaffolding, ladders, tools out, materials in place. Oil the nailer, get the compressor aired up, and get up on the ladder holding the first board. First two nails are fine. Then nothing. Get down, disconnect air hose, start checking it out. Can't find anything wrong. Try a few on a test board, one out of five works. Drive head is fine by the impression in the wood. For some reason the nails are not feeding into place.

After a half hour of messing with it, I go back the old way .. hammer and loose nails.

It works fine that way, but it's a pain to have to hold the board, the nail and the hammer while placing the nail and driving it.

It got even better with last week's software update. Our accounts receivable shop noticed that the delinquency rate had exploded overnight with some long term accounts showing missed payments. A bit of investigation revealed that the "value of payment received" field had been remapped to one of the address fields.

Cut my finger while doing electrical, no idea where but I must have poked it on a nail or something when pulling wire and it was bleeding like crazy. That was mildly inconvenient.

Glass block. Near full light transfer. Near zero vision transfer. Near thermal window. Less heat transfer.
Basement... Shouldn't be that hard to figure out it is mostly below grade, and I am not going to replace concrete in foundation with glass blocks.

TWMSO: Then I want to get rid of the wall of the staircase where it turns.

TIS: you can't, one, there is hvac ducts, secondly that is a load bearing wall, even if you remove the drywall it is not going to be open concept.

and I am not going to replace concrete in foundation with glass blocks.

No, but you might be able to replace the sections that don't have ductwork with it. They tend to magnify and disburse light. I've done it in two areas of an outside wall and it made quite a difference.

Err there are rooms in the basement. The ones that don't have outside wall is never getting natural light. It's a fucking stupid ask.

Spent the last 40 or more minutes trying to receive my food order. The local service has always delivered the food to my location successfully but today I was unlucky enough to deserve an absolute retard of a delivery person who kept on blaming me for giving the wrong Google maps location. Wouldn't back down from his claim and then threatened to take back my order to the restaurant and say whatever excuse he had dreamed up, possibly saying something to the tune of "Rude or unco-operative customer" despite my repeated attempts to help him get to my location. Finally had to complain against him to customer service. They believed him coz he's been working for them for 5 years. So I told them, tell the guy to come to such and such street and I will be standing there waiting for him. He comes there and then again tries to start the whole argument all over again. Guess he just wanted to hear an apology from me despite I having done no wrong. He refused to open his bike box to give the order to me and again threatened to go back without giving me the order. I dialed the customer support number in front of him and was waiting for someone to connect with when he finally gave up and handed me the order.

I can only describe my feelings as "incredulous". This is how wars start in this world. When people demand unreasonable things and refuse to back down or compromise.

I milled a piece of ash today. When I was breaking down the gear, I found a bolt halfway cut through. It didn't happen today, but one of the times my saw slipped in the mounts. I'm a little surprised it held, and surprised I didn't notice when my chain cut steel. Must've been tired when I sharpened it and didn't notice.

Ordered a part for my pressure washer, 12.50 and free shipping. Took a screenshot of the invoice which shows "free" in the shipping line. Three days later they want 13.50 for shipping. Slow roll bait and switch lmao.
