I decided last Friday I'd buy a fancy new iPad Pro from Verizon, being 'Merican I couldn't wait until Tuesday to have it shipped. I looked up what I could or in store pickup, all any stores carry are the 256GB version. I wanted a 512GB, but hate waiting so I used a coin flip app to decide for me. 3 heads I'd order the 256 and go pick it up, 3 tails I'd order the 512 and wait. I got 3 heads, so be it. Now I have a cutting edge iPad Pro with a damn near 3rd world country peasant amount of storage.
Real Apple user would have everything on iCloud. You are a poser.

Effing Giant bike. Broke a spoke last night. Really? Shop said, and I agree, they prolly should re spoke the wheel cause if I broke 1...then they said...It's a 28 spoke wheel. We can get a rim with 36 quality spokes for about the same $ and no labor charge.

Fat shaming bastards buy I did that on my last bike too.

Welp, I'm not a real Apple user, I've never even owned one of their computer machines. I've been a poor PC owner since the DOS days. And I'm pretty sure the real Apple people have the 2TB version so they can shoot and edit a ton of 4k 60fps content for their Tak-Tak influencer videos. With your aggression, I can only imagine you're one of those Android users.

And I do have the iClouds!

Once, it's the manufacturer's fault. Twice? It's your fatass.

1st time but the others were stressed so more will break. I learned after the Gary fisher. Broke 4 in the 1st 2 months...cheap crap from the store. Had the wheel re spoked and didn't break another for 8 years.

And the weight limit is 300lbs...I've got 80 more I can gain.

nothing to do with road, you ride over a grate and that 300lb limit is out the window.
Hadn't really considered that impact. Shock on the front but I've got it mostly locked out. Too mushy riding surface streets.

Come to think of it, I've only ever broken 1 front spoke.

If I get 8 years out of the new rim, money well spent.

I found this on a client server today. (We log in via SFTP to send them files.)

For those of you who aren't connecting the dots, somebody did this on a production server, visible to the public internet:

sudo chown -R root:root [root directory]
sudo chmod -R 777 [root directory]

Either that or their file server is set to map all users to root, which is frankly worse.

EIther way... yikes.

Not so much a problem as a moan. But why do people list things on Ebay with photos so blurry or badly-framed that you can't really make out anything about the item that's listed? What's the point in including photos at all if they are so out-of-focus as to be useless?

My Moto Stylus 5G 2024 does not have the call screening feature I had on the 2022 model. Apparently Google decided it should only exist on Pixel phones

New rim, a little labor to swap the cassette/tire....$160. $430 in 2 weeks. Golf is look8ng like an option. 😀

And it's raining so I can't ride. Knee prolly appreciates the break.

I've been mostly lucky with my house, stuff that broke was just regular wear and tear items. Weeping tiles was the big one and it happened early on too. But costs of living were way cheaper then so I guess it's better that I did that like 10 years ago, vs now... The cost would probably be like double and I have way less disposable income to put towards paying something like that off, than I did back then.

Furnace broke down last year so that was not fun, but was surprisingly not that expensive. Around 4k if I recall. My heat pump water heater which I decided to do at same time actually cost more, that was around 5k. Looking back I should have just bought and installed myself, would have saved myself 2k. I'm already noticing a big savings on my gas bill though, and hydro did not go up that much.

Next big thing I need to do with this house though is the roof. It's due in 2026, after that my insurance won't cover me if I get any issues as a result of roof failure. I was doing work up there and it looks in decent shape overall, but the north side is really showing it's age. The shingles are graying (suppose to be brown) and there's lot of moss. The adhesive is also not holding down anymore. So next year I will look at getting that done. Roofing is something I rather hire out than do myself, it's hard work, usually involves working in the heat and you're also racing against time to get it done fast before it rains. It would take me weeks to do and I'd be dealing with tarps and worrying about water getting in all the time, a roofing crew will have it done in a day.

I'm like 25k in the hole right now after the furnace, water heater, and getting my off grid land cleared and doubt I'll pay that off by next year so not the best timing to get the roof done but better safe than sorry. I have like 25k in company stocks, I just can't take those out fully yet, so I'm kind of banking on that getting me ahead in the next few years when they are available to cash out.
