Porting a 30 year old telephone number worth hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. The one thing the new Telco said over and over again was do NOT cancel your number before porting was complete.
So, what does one fucking idiot do? Cancelled the god damn number after I relayed the message multiple times, across a few weeks. I said it would take 6-8 weeks, I said the number couldn't be cancelled until porting was done.
Then the old Telco called when the porting request got to them. Their retentions department tried to win us back with a 25% discount. New VoIP service was a 90% discount, so obviously it was refused. The person answering the phone then proceeded to tell the Telco rep that they wanted the phone cancelled ASAP. So, the Telco rep decided to cancel the service within a few days -- other person accepted.
I can't decide if the scorned Telco rep didn't know this was a number port, didn't know the porting process, didn't give a shit, or just wanted to stick it to a clueless person. My moneys on a bit of cluelessness and vindictiveness. One last, "fuck you for leaving us." Now I have to call Telco to try to unfuck this and hopefully not get extorted.
