...that forum likes only just got started two weeks ago and I've been here since 2000.

Try again.

Stop beating around the bush and explain why you might need to watch vehicles in the left lane when slowing to stop at a red light.

Jesus loves you buddy.

My hair has started to grow slower, and slightly receding in front. When I was a kid my hair was super thick and grew ridiculously fast, and I used to hate it and my dad said I should be thankful. He was right. Though I imagine I still have a few decades to go before I actually start noticeably losing it. It's still decently thick just not like it used to be. Hair dressers used to have trouble with the clippers, it would clog up.

Holy. Shit. Those newly discovered bulbs someone else found? Turns out it wasn't just a few, it was an entire box of 1600 lumen (~100 W) bulbs that I think the electrician left behind as a "gift" after paying him to rewire the whole house. Geniuses decided to store them like bubble-wrap. Then there was another half-full box of used bulbs. Effing hell. Humped the box of 12 to dispose, now one box of 10-ish left.

They still work? Why dispose of them? I have tons of CFLs around the house, I find they're still the best bang for the buck. I just took some down in my basement though, replaced sockets with two T8 fixtures so they're flush with the joists. Kept the bulbs though.

As a side note CFLs are also half decent for grow lights. They generate some heat and decent amount of usable light.

^Because they're toxic pieces of shit I don't want around anymore. And I found out I could replace all the bulbs in the house with LEDs for less than $50 -- these ones supposedly last longer, use less juice, turn on quicker, and you don't need to clear the room & close the airlock if you drop one.

True, but may as well wait till they die, as they will be toxic either way. Did not realize LEDs had gotten that cheap though. You're buying locally and not from Amazon right? The crap from Amazon is not even UL, CSA or not even ETL approved, so I would not trust it as every day use. Some of them are downright scary, like exposed high voltage traces etc.

^That was the original plan. Then I went to change a CFL that died, recently: the electrode blew up on one side and broke open the glass. I didn't change the bulb until over a week later so all the mercury not bound to the glass aired itself out. Not taking that chance again.

I bought a bunch of Ikea LED bulbs that were $2 to $3 each -- also bought some Philips for about $7 each. I don't think they Ikea ones are UL listed -- they have some other certification -- but I have Ikea LED bulbs from 3 years ago that are still working. And I kind of trust Ikea to not explode or start a fire.

Edit: I just checked some of my boxes. The Ikea ones have an ETL symbol. I'd never heard of them before -- seems like you have -- but their own website makes them sounds reasonable good.

Hmm yeah would probably be fine if it's Ikea. It's the stuff that's straight from China you have to watch for. A few bucks for LED is incredible though. The LED modules alone are often more expensive on places like Digikey.

I had a few CFLs that vented as well, one broke and I did not notice, then it made a venting sound when I turned it on. Oops. Probably get exposed to more mercury each time you eat fish though. Still I feel there needs to be better recycling programs for these, including neon tubes, which often they just tell you to put with regular trash... which is how fish end up with mercury in first place.

So... Some marijuana dispensary blew up in my city. I didn't understand why and thought there was maybe a secret meth lab or a gas leak.

Then I went online and found out there was something called "shatter" or BHO and it involved using butane to dissolve THC or something -- not a druggy or expert on drugs, not technical advice. Butane, used in lighter fluid, explodes, who woulda guessed?

I didn't need to know that? But now I know why/how marijuana ops explode. Oh, and I got ATOT indexed now for drugs.

You're thinking of meth labs, not pot growing operations.

If my worst problem today is entering into a thread to be attacked by uneducated people then I'm having it better than other people in this world.

Ugh, because my cable from Amazon hasn't come yet, I almost bought another one for $15, but then the idea of blowing $15 for something I may use for a week turned me off. The idea of having a $15 paperweight that I'd never use again was even worse -- I want less trash.

Haha I've done this before, where I ordered stuff but it was taking too long, so I ordered another or bought locally. I have a bunch of spare computer parts because of that. One time I ordered everything to build a new PC, everything came in except for the heat sink. After a couple weeks of waiting I gave up and ordered another one, and it came in the next day. I now have a spare heat sink that I'll probably never use. By the time I build a new machine they'll probably have changed the sockets again so that heat sink won't work.

^Ask me a year or two ago and I'd have bought it. I can more than afford it, but I can't stand all this trash anymore.

Computer parts are probably the worst: so hard to dispose of properly, especially hard drives.

Tried to get 1 gallon of OEM 50/50 premixed coolant so I can change the coolant at home for my vehicle. Cost from dealer was about $23 after sale tax and Amazon price was about $28 for the same thing with free shipping. Amazon, you are slipping bad. Your price is higher than dealer cost now?

I also swung by to see some friends and we went to a Greeked Con (comics, movies, etc.) and Tara Reid from American Pie/Sharknado movies was there. She looked a lot skinnier now and rough.

Yeah I keep meaning to go through my stuff and start a FS thread, but really, but the time you ship it out etc, it ends up costing more than anything you'd get. I have some ECC ram even, no idea how i even managed to have that as spare ram, it's not something you just buy unless you have a purpose. Motherboards tend to be really ram picky these days, so it's not like I can just stick it in a random server.

Need to convert some pdf files to text. Sweet Jesus on a boogie board, that is one epic pain in the patootie. Any software that lests you edit pdf files is going to be at least a couple hundred bucks, assuming you pay for it which you kinda have to these days unless you really want to waste a lot of time. The cheapest alternative is to use ocr on the files to do the conversion but I don't think it really reproduces the structure of some things like tables accurately.

I finally dug out my old copy of Nuance Omnipage 17 (before Nuance made everything suck) and was able to get clean versions in every word and text format I asked for. Just have to try excel now.

Moral - never throw out old software.

I couldn't fit the large cooler in my Mercedes-Benz to go pick up 60lbs of fish from my latest off-shore fishing trip so I had to take the Lexus instead...

It's hard to make money in Canada by shipping, it's too expensive. The U.S. s way cheaper for mailing random crap.

Butane hash oil. Look it up.

This man knows his narcotics.

Moral - never throw out old software.

Especially now that Adobe is essentially forcing people to "rent" software using a subscription model. I looked into getting two pieces of Adobe software, it was very hard to find the price for a one-time purchase.
