Chrome updated after I rebooted and now my incognito window has a dark color scheme... I feel like a perv and I don't like change.

And my Craigslist buyer bailed on me. Oh well, it's raining and I didn't want to go out anyway, but I got up early.

Edit: Some sack of shit left an attic window open so rain water leaked in. When asked over and over if he left the window open, fucker doesn't answer.

Well I got a call this morning from the store manager who informed me that they'd arrived and to come in anytime to have them installed but emphasized that they weren't busy ATM. Needless to say I jumped in the car and headed on over. It took them about an hour during which time I studied so it was all good plus XFINITY Wi-Fi is available so I was online as well. The handling and ride are so much better now that the old tires are off.

Damn. What happened to vendors being open on Saturdays? I guess since most stuff is done online they don't need cust. supp. on weekends but shit. It really sucks when you have a problem and you need a live human.

I broke the LCD display for my postal scale. It's not the fancy kind that spits out postage, it just weights shit to 1/100 of an ounce. Kind of over kill but I guess it didn't cost them any more to make it that way.

Anyway, it uses a remote module to display the weight and the LCD doesn't work right so it's not usable. Rather than throw the whole thing out, since it's a pretty nice scale, I took the module apart to see if there were any serviceable parts and I think I can probably get a replacement LCD. Those things are probably pretty standardized.

Thing is, I'm never going to find the right one on my own. I need to talk to someone who knows what they're doing. Plus I need a special kind of tacky, conductive glue for the ribbon cable. Let's see if I manage to lose any screws between now and Monday.

Did you get the part number off the lcd? Usually you can just google it and you'll see returns for several electronics parts vendors who carry it. Otherwise you'll probably have to get an electronics shop to look at it and find it in one of their supplier catalogs.

Went to a strip mall I never go to since they had a RS sign, but that's all they had; a sign. Place was a ghost town. Most of mall was vacant, and no RS to be found. The Chinese takeout was still there, so I got lunch. Not a total loss.

I guess I'll have to dig around my boxes of crap, and see if I find anything interesting. I don't even know where my soldering stuff is :^(

Yeah Radio Shack went tits up a few years ago. Closed all the stores. We still sorta have it in Canada but it's called The Source (been that way for a while). It's more of a cell phone / electronics store, than an actual "electronics" store. You might be able to buy a 10 pack of assorted resistors for $7.99.

Actually there is a mall downtown that I don't go to very often, it kinda reminds me of the same thing, when I do go in there, half the stores are closed. There used to be a shop called Computer World, I actually bought my first video card there, but they had to order it. Then I discovered online shopping...

It's kinda too bad in a way though that local retail is pretty much dying. But it's just not worth it to keep an inventory, and if you have to order stuff well it defeats the purpose.

Thanks. That was the first thing I looked for. There's a chance there's a number hiding behind one of the mounting pads. And I guess I'll need to remove those anyway. I figured I would transplant them directly from the old to the new and use some rubber cement if they didn't stick but that ass backwards. I should do it now in case there is in fact a part number. The back is pretty clean though so IDK.

I did take pics with a ruler next to the display so I know that it has 26 contacts on the ribbon cable and from edge to edge it's 81x36mm exactly. I'm hoping that together with the pics that narrows it down enough if there's no number.

It's a really nice scale and goes to 315lbs. I used to use it for ebay and I plan to get back into selling stuff I need to get rid of.
