What first world problem did you have today?

Sucks. We are feeling that pain throughout my company, not because of racism or people being deported, but because the company seems to have completely stopped the hiring of new employees. Any time someone quits or retires they don't replace them.

It also means lot of OT in my department though, so there's that. When people are on vacation there is not enough people to cover all the shifts.

We have one of those in the boy's bathroom. Somehow they've managed to pull it out of the wall 2x already and there isn't a stud in the correct place for it. Even with wall anchors they are brutal...

Agonizing over which $1K monitor to buy.

lol same. I've been thinking of switching from my 3 monitor setup to a single 4k. They seem to be in about the $1,000 range for 32" and up. 32" is probably big enough but I'd consider 40 something. it's basically like 4 monitors in one in terms of real estate.

But if I go 4k it means my KVM probably won't support it, so then I'll need to find a KVM that does USB and HDMI (good luck with that, they're mostly all VGA and PS/2 with the odd DVI one) or I need to move the gaming machine to the TV, which is something I kinda want to do anyway. Then I could eliminate the KVM altogether. Gaming on the TV might be awkward though that would be my only worry. Guess my first step is to try that first and see how I like it. Need to build some kind of solid tray/desk to play off of and set in front of the couch.

Then my main machine which runs Linux would get the 4k for the extra real estate/productivity. Later on I could upgrade to a larger 4k TV if I feel I want to game that way. 4k gaming on a 70" would be pretty epic. Or a 4k projector.

This is your "dead of winter," you son of a bitch... Currently -5 C here which is like 20 F. Perfect freeze your ass off despite pants weather.

And I contacted my home insurance broker with a question that may void coverage. It shouldn't but then they might be bitches.

I also found out what Muck Boots are. Heard great things while looking into buying Hunter Wellingtons. Amazon.ca actually stocks them and it isn't from a third-party. Still skeptical about authenticity though.

My 3.5 year old 1080p Sony developed yet another defect so I decided it was finally time to get another television. I pulled the trigger on an LG OLED that will come next week. But I have to clean things up so that the delivery person can bring the new set in w/o tripping over my shit. There's also the issue of the rat's nest of wires in back of the shelf where the set will go but he's just going to have to deal with that. That is a at least a full day's job right there.

Ah, ran into that last year - blew out just after a snowstorm, soooooo cold! Upshot is my broken furnace was like 50% efficient & the new one is 80%, so it should save some bucks long-term.

Good time to invest in something more efficient, there are like 98% efficient ones now that are modulating, they fire at a specific rate based on the need. Not sure how that works from a thermostat point of view though, I would personally not want something that uses a proprietary one. Otherwise a standard 90% efficient condensing is good enough. Just don't go with anything that has a single chimney, it wastes a lot of heat while also sucking heat outside.

I want to replace my water tank with something more efficient and also get out of the rental contract, but the tankless one I was quoted for is insanely expensive. I need to do more research on the one that Home Depot sells, it's not as expensive and I could install it myself, just need to hire out for the gas line work. The one I was quoted for is over 2 grand, with labour and everything it comes up to over 5 grand. lol. Ya not worth while.
