Good hush puppies? Beer?

Hush puppies were a bit overcooked, the fish were a bit bland (not enough flavor) but I was hungry (right after work). No beer because it was a family-friendly event. No unsweet tea either. Too much sugar in the regular tea IMO.

But hey, free is free. No need for dinner. I will head to Louisiana with a few friends this weekend because they have a Mud Bug Festival (crawfish).

I just got an alert that I one of my attic mouse traps went off, but my portable air conditioner that I don't use anymore is in the closet where the attic hatch is, so it would be a pain to get to it.

I really need to figure out how the hell they're getting up there though. I see nothing obvious around the house so it will be a hard one.

My work PC has been acting up. Randomly one of my monitors goes dark and it causes all the other ones to screw up and flash and shuffle all my stuff everywhere. Now it refuses to work with 5 monitors at all. I ruled out the cable, the monitor, and even the port on the machine. I suspect it's some really weird hardware or driver issue of sorts.

So I had to try to cram all my stuff on only 4 and I can only see like 1-2 alarm entries per system so hopefully we don't get some big outage or something because it's going to be nuts. Made up a ticket explaining exactly what happened and what I tried but I doubt it will get fixed. They don't have a budget for anything, it's ridiculous. We've been asking for extra monitors (and better PCs/video cards to power them) and we don't get anything.

I'm at a point where I want to buy my own hardware, but I also don't want to actually spend money for work. I should not need to do that when the company reports billions in profit every year.

My apache webserver that runs on my work machine has shut down the network twice this week. I /think/ I just needed to restart after an update, but don't know for sure. It didn't affect the whole office. Only my room which I share with the draftsman, and partially(?) the engineer's machine. I don't know enough about networking to even guess why that happened, but I think it might be a bad interaction of some kind with the ghetto switch that sits behind my desk. I'll have to keep an eye on it, and read some logs when I get the the time.

Get a uv flashlight, go up into the attic, turn off the lights and look for urine trails. Mice piss all over the place so you should see trails. One of those trails should lead to the entry point.

Get something like this that comes with safety glasses. You don't want uv shining in your eyes, even from and led flashlight.

I never even thought of that! Though the insulation might just absorb it so not sure if it will really show, but worth a shot.

That doesn't sound like you squirrel. Not techie enough. You should setup a feeding station for the mice that applies an rfid chip to their backs, then place readers around the attic to find out where they're going. For fun, you can setup an old school looking radar type display with a sweep bar that highlights your tagged mice and track them around the attic.

Lol it's crossed my mind to use some kind of GPS module, but GPS is not really accurate enough, even if they make a module small enough for mice. I could try to tie a really long string to their tail and then release it outside to see if it tries to go back in the house.

Maybe I need some FLIR cameras around my property. Actually that would probably be the simplest... but very expensive lol.

Who takes their kid to Home Depot, seriously, esp on Memorial day weekend? Kid was balling his eyes out for what appeared to be no reason.

My nose is all messed up lately, it's not really plugged, but I keep getting that sneeze sensation then go into sneeze fits, which then causes it to be plugged up for a while, then it eventually clears.

I hope I'm not coming up with something, this is usually the time of year I get sick too.... need to load up on extra vitamins and oregano oil and hope for the best.

Had to go for a sleep study. It seems that I have apnea - where you stop breathing completely - and hypopnea where your breathing is only partially obstructed. Apnea can happen either because of an obstruction, like your throat closing when relaxed, or because your brain forgets to tell your body to breathe. It seems that have all 3 issues which means I have to get a bi-PAP machine (like CPAP but 2 pressure settings, one for inhale, one for ex) and wear a mask to bed every night. I'm not looking forward to that but from everyone I've talked to, the difference it makes in your life is nothing short of miraculous.

I've probably had some variety of apnea for most of my life since I had brain injury when I was very young. So there's a good chance that I've never gotten a truly good night's sleep. For now I just have to have faith that all of the effort and discomfort involved will have some positive results.

I was playing around with kermit all day trying to send a file to my data collector. I can get a file out using cutecom and gkterm, but I can't get a successful upload. I haven't used kermit since the dos days, and I think that version made some different assumptions than the posix version, cause I'm almost 100% sure I only had to set the baud rate, parity, and port to get successful two way communication.

My goal is to get rid of the 2kpro vm I run pretty much for that program only. The transfer program will run in wine but at a slower speed. Using kermit will still give me the slower speed, but it'll be scriptable, and that will give me some niceties to make up for the slower transfer.

Got it working. Had to set carrier-watch to off, and I had to specify flow control to none. That got a file transferred. Now I just need to script it. Gotta think of how I want to do it.

I had to get up for work. Goddamn it was so hard; even though I've blown through almost all of my PTO for the year (to take days of to sleep in, lulz) I was tempted to take another day today. But between the lack of PTO and the fact that I need to wrap up a project this week, I really can't. Ugh. FML

I hate getting up early too. That's why I like my job, it's shift work, I ask to get mostly night shifts. 12h shifts also mean more time off. It's still 40h weeks but it's just condensed more into fewer days.

Honestly I think all jobs should be that way, 8x5 is what makes people so miserable and stressed, you have no time for yourself. 2 day weekends are too short.

Fat Head Tom didn't show up for his food today. Lost my calico a month or so ago, and now Fat Head's missing. I kind of enjoyed seeing him, even though he didn't want anything to do with me.

I looked at the kitchen counter and there was a freshly baked cherry pie to my left and a freshly baked apple pie to my right. My dilemma was a short one and the cherry pie won.
