I think I discovered I picked the wrong career. Been watching tree climbing videos, and I want to do that. I'm getting too old and beat up to pick it up at this point I think, but I'm thinking about buying some gear, and trying it out. I could use some of techniques with my current job, but not that often. Sometimes I end up with inconvenient limbs in the way, but they're too high to get from the ground, and the tree's too big to take down with hand tools, aside from being wasteful. Climbing up to remove the limbs would be groovy.

I’m at a Chevy dealer to drop off my work truck for service. While I’m waiting for my ride I’m looking at sticker prices. Sweet Baby Jesus, I’m out of touch again. 50K for a 2WD Tahoe base model.

No kidding.

I was looking at a new Tacoma SR5 2x4 truck recently with V6, full 4 doors double cab, 5 ft short bed, and normal stuff, nothing fancy to add on, and the price was over $32K (and it was a sale price). I was like "might as well get myself a Lexus for $30K+ vehicle"

I was just looking at the exact same vehicle yesterday . Curiosity, not really looking to buy. My 2010 Tacoma (same as above) was $24K. I only have 75K miles on it so it should last me another 15 years. I'll be dead by then.

I have a customer that leased a Highlander for....$750/mo. She does home health and has put 35K miles on it in the 1st year. WTH? My house payment wasn't $750.

It's the sedans that have the deals.

It wasn't that long ago you could get a solid used work truck for <$1k, If you were patient, you could get one for $500 or less. Now, it takes $5k to get one with one tire in the grave, and the other baloney skin on a banana peel.

I was gonna get a small bag from harborfreight to keep my small chainsaw stuff in, but it unsurprisingly got some bad, but expected reviews. I remembered a cheap vinyl computer case I got as a boc from woot, and it works pretty well for that purpose. It's a piece of shit too, but it's already paid for, and isn't more crap around the house/planet. I wanted to put a cheap tool set inside my daughter got me for jul one year, but now I can't find the ratcheting screwdriver. One step forward, at least one step back. The story of my life :^/

Yeah, I want to buy a boat soon and that means I need a truck to tow it. Not looking forward to the pricing of that combo.

I often think it would be nice to have a truck but yeah even used they are expensive. I think my best compromise is to get a hitch installed on my car and buy a small utility trailer. Would be nice for when I need a bunch of 2x4's or something, or a couple sheets of plywood, or drywall etc. Basically small amounts where it's not worth paying $50 for delivery.

find better fiends.

I've got a friend with a boat and he fishes a lot, but it would be nice to be able to go out by myself. Now that the only video games I play are either on Super Nintendo or low-resource indie games, I've got a lot more money in my hobby budget. No more $2500 computers every year.

I'll probably get a kayak first.

If I had a place to go and a boat, I'd be all in. Sadly, I don't... I'm pretty happy just drowning worms but that's not my day.

Kayak ..saw some guys using some rafting device with paddles and fishing. Looked pertty cool. Google.

I used to kayak fish in the marsh when I lived on the Gulf Coast. Now that I'm in St. Louis I stick to the ponds and reservoirs around here for crappie and bass. I do some shore fishing - I caught three little bass on a frog today, but having a boat would let me hit up the bigger water over in Illinois.

Kayaks start getting stupidly expensive too, but when there are folks like my friend spending $500 on a reel and $400 on a rod, I guess $3,000 for a kayak isn't out of the question. As for the boat I'm trying to stick to under $15,000. I don't need anything crazy.
