Wow... ok so what do we even have then that is Canadian? There used to be NCIX but they're gone now. There's Canada Computers but their site is super slow, and then there's Memory Express. Those are much smaller too don't have as much. It's kinda sad how little options we have here for buying stuff.

Disgusting heat forecast over the next 2 weeks.

(Temps of 90 degrees F or hotter for highs from the 12th to the 20th,according to accuweather.com)...

This is not normal Oregon weather...

We're still in a heat warning here, it seems to be up and down. We got a day where it cooled off decently but warmed up again. Like I went outside at midnight to check something and I actually felt a bit cool. I think it was like 10. We're back in the 25+ range now though. Yesterday was closer to 30. That's 86F. The Bible camp my church runs wants my help with stuff and I don't mind helping but damn I wish it would cool down. I told them I'd go after this set of shifts but it's suppose to be 30's all the way through. :/ Nothing worse than doing physical work in intense heat. I don't know how people do that on a regular basis, it's just so uncomfortable and horrible to work in.

The record store (yes, one still exists) had a Moody Blues CD bundle for cheap so I bought it. I had the albums on vinyl way back when. The remastering of On the Threshold of a Dream sounds really mushy. I hope the rest aren't this bad. I think they remastered from a cassette tape left on the dashboard of a 1980 Ford Escort for week.

I had a dream last night that I lost my knife and/or it was stolen. I was looking around for it, checking other people's stuff, but it didn't show up. I like good dreams, I like scary dreams, and I can appreciate troubling dreams. Last night's dream was banal and irritating :^S

Same here (Michigan). We should see low 80s around the 19th it looks like. Ugh.

For me, I'm waiting for my nifty ass new headphones to arrive (Audeze Mobius) which were slated for July 2018 but since the Early Bird backers didn't get theirs yet (supposed to be in June), I doubt I'll see mine until August or even September. GODDAMNIT. My Sennheiser headphones are nice but I cannot wait to finally have cordless ones. I've gone cordless for keyboard and mouse and I love it.

Power went out this morning as I headed to work. Called Hydro to let them know (pole fuse blown). Unfortunately my batteries only lasted 2 hours and my entire rack dropped hard. I'm on lunch assessing the damage. The file server *seems* ok... but I have to leave so don't have time to check everything...

Looks like I'll be spending several grand on upgrading my battery plant. Ugh. Going to go with golf cart batteries, better than the marine/RV ones. Idealy I should be using telecom batteries but I can't afford those. I really want to upgrade my setup to 48v dual conversion but it's so hard to find the parts for that. Companies like Alpha/Cordex don't really sell to average joes or have online stores.

Just glad I at least have the file server up and I can see my files... don't know how bad the data corruption is though, I'll find out tonight when I try to bring my VMs back up.

I have some really weird network issues going on. Can get internet access from the main vlan but not from the others. This is going to be a mess and a half to recover from. DNS tends to be the issue. Virtualizing DNS was the stupidest idea. The infrastructure relies on DNS in order to bring DNS back up. It's a chicken and egg game. I made a secondary DNS on a physical box a while back but it never fails over properly, it keeps trying to use the VM one because it's set as primary. I need to move DNS to a raspberry Pi or something so it's completely independent. Anyway off to work as I ponder this. What a mess.

Well I got lucky, no hardware damage that I know of and does not look like anything corrupted either but that's something I'll only find out over the years as I go to open files or things I don't use often. Hard shutdowns can be really bad especially for servers that have been running for years non stop. Mdadm raid is pretty resilient though, I've never had it fail me. All my file IO issues seem to be strictly NFS related. I still have to figure that out some day or switch to something better. I hate how NFS relies so much on client side for settings. That's kinda piss poor. Stuff like that should be server side as to minimize the amount of config required on clients.

Had some weird network issues with my oldest server but it was still configured as having a trunk port since it used to be a VM server so I configured it as an access port and got rid of the vlan interfaces. That SEEMS to have fixed the weird network issues I was having with that server. Not sure why it only started to act up now though but weird stuff like this tends to surface only after a reboot. Kinda sad I lost my near 1500 days uptime on that box though. I'm surprised it even came back up tbh.

I should have taken this opportunity to swap out the unused fibre channel card with the 4 port nic in the file server, but I was kinda in a hurry to assess damage and didn't have lot of time.

omg the fuse blew again you gotta be kidding me lmao. Well at least I know my systems come back gracefully to some degree... at least I'm home to monitor voltage and shut stuff down properly.

My outside kitties left me a gift of a blue jay wing. Could've at least left some meat on it...

Was street sweeping day on my block. Saw some signs posted. Moved my car one block, turned right, and parked on another street. Turns out it was street sweeping day on that street too, so I ended up getting a ticket even though I moved my car. FML.

There's a forest fire 15km from here so they issued a fire ban. Suppose it would turn into a 3rd world problem quickly if the fire burned through town.

Better make sure your server doesn't lose power again if the fire is near utility lines.

Yeah I really need to upgrade my setup and add more batteries. Only toughed a few hours. It would almost be cheaper to go with regular UPSes and a standby generator, but that still requires maintenance, fuel etc so I rather put effort towards batteries, as I could eventually tie in alternative energy into it.

I took out my drone and can't really see much, it is a bit hazy in the air but it's still very far. A few years back we had one that was very close though, that was eerie as hell. The sky was all orange.

I got 3 yahoo accounts from back in the day when email was very small (one megabyte or less) and for some reason I cannot access any of them. Want to transfer all my stuff over to gmail but the yahoo page wont let me log in. Says I need to verify account due to unusual activity, which is probably because I only look at them once a year or so.
In order to verify I have to use other email accounts which I've not had access to for years.

Its all fucked.
