What first world problem did you have today?

Woke up at 3:30am to the sound of a cat getting ready to puke on the bed. As I picked her up to move her off the bed, a claw got hooked in the covers. She freaked out in a screaming hissy fit, bolting off the bed, dragging all the covers with her. At least she didn't puke on the bed.

The start of my weekend was delayed because an asshat coworker decided to add his personal life philosophy and unsupported conjectures to what was supposed to be a technical review. I had to go back and scrub the garbage out of his review. Eight pages became one page when the bullshit was deleted. Then I had to explain to his/my boss how the coworker's bullshit was bullshit. The bastard had the gall to request OT to complete his review.

Now different levels of management have different concepts of what constitutes bullshit. Upper management likes my edits. Lower management wants a lot of the bullshit put back in. Now we have three versions of the report: Bullshit™, No Bullshit™, and Bullshit-lite™ and I've been tasked with developing a fourth version, Bullshit-lite Extra™. I'm leaning toward sending the client all four versions with instructions to follow their bliss.

This is a red letter day for 1st world problems for me. Today I will spend six hours in training that I could be spending editing the bullshit referenced above. The training is mandatory EEO and diversity training. Having attended EEO training for more than twenty years now, I have discovered that as a now middle-aged white guy, I am the type human specimen from which all diversity is measured. This isn't the intent of the training of course but it is the central message hammered in year after year. "These people over here are diverse because they are different than middle aged white guys." I guess soon enough I'll be an old person and therefore increase my diversity points to novice level.

I just sat through a 2 hour meeting with no cell phone or laptop. It was also a meeting I cared very little about and was not expected to give any input anyways. Holy ADD batman.

Prior to my surgery last month, I sent in a check to pay my deductible ($300) to the office my doctor is at. I returned from vacation last week to find a bill in the amount of $351.54 from the surgery center (separate the doctor's office). Their breakdown was $300 deductible, $51.54 co-insurance. I have been trying to get in contact with the lady in the billing department at my doctor's office since my return (Thursday last week). I finally get through to her today. I tell her that my deductible was paid in full prior to surgery and that I am being billed by the surgery center for the deductible as well. She pulls up my information and finds out that the doctor's office actually OWES me money in the amount of $292.12!? She said that the doctor's office didn't get hit with the deductible by the insurance, but actually the surgery center. The problem is I have to dish out my own $350 to the surgery center immediately because I won't have the check from the doctor before the bill is due to the surgery center.

I have to go up a floor and visit Legal and steal some of their traditional hot cross buns to even things up.

I'm trying to get past my immediate, negative reaction to the format change, as most of us are inherently conservative in that we're not partial to sudden changes, at least at first.

But . . . why? why? why? . . . do "upgrades" always mean loss of basic functionality? Now, getting to the box score of a game involves first clicking on the "recap." In the old format, you had the immediate choice of the box score or the recap.
