I installed an extended (10" X-Axis) heated bed on my 3D printer, which required an 250w+ ATX power supply instead of the 60w wall wart. I dug through my parts bin trying to find my 250w "backup" PSU (which is a noisy little SFX unit), and found... a NIB 450w Antec instead. Which I totally thought I had returned for a refund two years ago. Goddamit.

Upshot? It's silent.

So now it's running my Printrbot.

Also, insomnia.

Broke my phone, which is the only internet I have at home, and the replacement hasn't shipped yet. Debating between a cheap cell/prepaid plan, or xfinity hotspot pay as you go. Xfinity would technically be better, but my neighbors are too far. Sitting in my truck to get decent signal now on their one hour free thing. Took forever to get my laptop setup too. Which is where I wasted most of the hour...

Well this sucks, just realized all the screws for a monitor I was working on are gone. No idea what I originally did with them, I would have kept them, but between delays and constantly having to move stuff around to clear my workbench because of people wanting me to fix other stuff, I must have accidentally threw them out or my cleaning lady moved them. This sucks because I really need a 6th monitor at work and this is the exact model as the others. I don't really want to end up with an odd shaped/size one. I have another I can repair but it's way bigger, and would take up too much desk space. It also does not go vertical.

They won't buy us more monitors at work, so when some break I try to fix them.

Found screws that would fit for mostly everything so decided to go ahead and do what I wanted to do. Basically I thought I had ruled out the problem to a bad flex cable connection so I just soldered it right on directly. But seems the issue is somewhere else so I decided to tighten the CFL connector and the HV arced to my thumb, now it has a tiny white hole in it. That was one heck of a zinger lol. First time I ever get a shock that actually leaves a mark.

So I'm thinking the issue may had been somewhere else all along, was probably a coincidence that it started to work when I played with the flex cable. The CFL bulb itself might actually be dying too, as they tend to die that way where they flicker. Probably not worth trying to replace that.

Might have to write this one off. Though I wonder how viable it would be to throw some led strips in there and just not use the CFL part. It's kinda a science to get the light to be uniform though.

Well... Phone still hasn't shipped. Rocking a new SuperGhetto™ Kyocera Hydro with images off to save a bit of data. Ya know, for a $40 smartphone, it really isn't that bad. In fact, I think I'd call it a fuckin' miracle. Amazing what $40 buys these days. Hope my new phone gets here quickish though.

I got pulled away from my work to assist a manager in making the video conferencing system operational again. He was standing there holding the HDMI cable attached to the camera, looking befuddled. The video system box has a bunch of ports in back. It has exactly one (1) HDMI port. I take the cable from his hand and plug it into the port. HOLY MOTHER OF CHRIST AND ALL THE SAINTS IN HEAVEN, IT LIVES!

This manager has literally survived in the Alaska wilderness for weeks at a time living off nothing but the food he could catch. What is it about computer/stereo/TV/electronics connectors that turns people's brains to f'in mush? It's like someone slowly opening and closing their eyes while mumbling, "World there, world gone."

I think you have a monitor addiction problem and should seek the help of a profession psychologist at your earliest convenience.

We have a project at work that is flying straight into a brick wall. From day one, it was a just bad idea and never should have been launched. I have had the guilty pleasure of watching this thing catch fire on the treadmill/runway, knowing that it wasn't my project and not my problem. Today, I was assigned as project lead. Karma, it is indeed a bitch. There is still time to cut losses, abort this thing, and let it quietly burn to ashes in the dust bin of history but I fear that some upper management types have made ego investments in the project and will march us on to Stalingrad. I'm running out of metaphors for how bad this project is.
After months of ego stroking by moi, upper management has finally come around to communicating their true intentions for this project and it will be put down mercifully like a brain dead puppy. I guess I can get back to productive work now.

When you have to clean up code from the person before you who inserted BS stuff like hidden form values of "letsgojets" that aren't referenced from anywhere. I'd like to punch them in the face.

My mom decided to plan a last minute family vacation and trying to get me to book time off at work way last minute after the schedule has already been made, and being super confusing with her dates. To make matters worse I need to get some days off that fall before/after that week which will be a scheduling nightmare at work. She just does not realize how tight our schedules are due to being short staff and summer being the peek of vacations.

Simple answer...."So sorry."

If she didn't get it before, she will not get it now. Thankfully most of us are assholes so this does not become a problem.

That's pretty much what will happen. I said they can just go without me if I can't get the time off, I don't really care either way, not that big on traveling and already got plans to go camping with a friend this summer.
