What five games have eaten the most of your life?

1. WoW (PC) and I didn't even play as hardcore as most addicts
2. Battlefield 1942 (PC)
3. Unreal Tournament 1 (PC)
4. Street Fighter 2 (Arcade, SNES)
5. Alternate Reality City/Dungeon (Atari 800, Commodore 64)

If I could have the time back that spent on these suckers, I'd be MUCH younger!

I can think of 7 that are way ahead of anything else in terms of time spent, so I'm going to list them all.

1: Freespace 2, 8 years on and off
2: Descent 2, 3 years
3: C&C: Red Alert, 3 years
4: Deus Ex, 2 years
5: Unreal Tournament, 2 years
6: Lemmings and its expansion, 2 years
7: Infotron (Mac port of Supaplex), 1 year

For many of those games, most of my time was spent in modding them in some way.

Counter-Strike
Goldeneye/Perfect Dark
Madden
Tie Fighter
Morrowind

Left4Dead is making a strong case, but it hasn't been around enough to declare it a life-eater the way Goldeneye was. It was practically an unwritten rule in middle school that when you went to someone's house you played Goldeneye.

These are probably my biggest time wasters. Not necessarily my favorite, but the ones i spent the most time doing.

1) Oblivion (I was stupid with how much I played that game. Right after a bad time in my life, and I used this to help me get over it. I doubt I will ever spend so much time on something so pointless as a video game again.)

2) Red Alert (I didn't like it as much as C&C, but it was easier to play multiplayer. Plus it came with an editor. I created two commonly used maps that people still use today: Minefields, and Treasure Island)

3) Counter Strike (I loved playing this game, but was average at best. As it became more popular, I couldn't deal with the massive ammount of annonymous douchebags though.)

4) Doom 2 (first game I got for my parents new Pentium 60. Before this, I had an 8088 that wouldn't play any modern games. I even created at least a half dozen of my own levels.)

5) Command and Conquer (My favorite RTS of all time. So many ways to play, and so many effective strategies to win. You could win in 5 minutes if the opponent isn't paying attention, or you could slug it out and win the old fashioned way.)

(PC) The 1st Medal of Honor - this game got me into multiplayer FPS

(PC) Call of Duty 2 - played this for about 2 years after MoH

(PC) Rome: Total War - ex-gf broke up with me over my obsession with this game... nothing like unleashing hundreds of elite Roman soldiers on filthy barbarians and conquering the world

(Xbox360) Gears of War - Man, 10,000 kills seriously achievement FTL

(Xbox360) Oblivion - Loved every bit of it (didn't have a good enough PC at the time)

(PC/Xbox360) Call of Duty 4 - Totally my multiplayer FPS style... sorry CS players

Edit: I know it was supposed to be 5... but I couldn't decide on the last two so I listed all 6.

I only have 2, both PC.

Medal of Honor Allied Assualt/Spearhead
COD2

I usually only play single player on most games so that ends up being a finite amount of time. I suck at RTS even thoug hI enjoy playing so I only do single player and skirmish and that gets boring pretty quick.

I also think that the game itself was somewhat inferior to C&C, but its engine was more extendable and there was a lot more scope for mods. It was easy to play around with most of the gameplay parameters, as opposed to C&C where everything was hardcoded in the exe. The built-in map editor was kind of lousy and didn't let you use most of the game's features, but there were some very good fanmade ones available.

Those are my first two.

I also suck at multiplayer RTS's... I enjoy playing single player on those but, once I switch to multi, merciless RTS veterans always rush me with a whole bunch of crap and obliterate me. I guess I like the aspect of base building and expansion but when playing multi is very difficult to do that.
