what game have you played most several times and why?

i have an opinion that the game i have played the most from starting to the very end is Chrono Trigger. First i played it when i guess i was about 12 and from that time i occasionally just play it again. it is like a piece of childhood for me or something.
Although i ´m afraid i might be getting old...last time i coulnd´t kill Son of Sun and used a walkthrough to help me out

i like to beat all the bad guys by myself, but didn´t have the patience, i guess. I have played Chrono quite many times for now, but still can´t kill all of them... that really sucks...

But what are the most played games for you?

Pc games, that would be Baldur's Gate 2. It just has that much replay value.

Next would be the Elder Scrolls series I suppose. Most would be Daggerfall or Arena back in the day, but I played the crap out of Morrowind too. To a lesser extent, Skyrim and Oblivion.

Console - probably Shadowhearts Covenant. the only game I started a third playthrough of, ever. And, everage time of the 3 playthroughs - 80 hours each.

Borderlands 2 – catching up with the number of replays at this stage. Brilliant game.

if you're talking games in general, probably Crusader Kings 2 without a doubt.

If you're talking RPGs, I hardly ever replay an RPG. Once I play it, I know the story so I just uninstall and move to the next game. Very few exceptions to my RPG rule, that I remember, Quest for Glory 1 I played it once as a thief and once as a mage (it was an RPG/adventure game, and approaches to the adventure obstacles were different from class to class, so it was worth playing twice as you were playing almost a different game). Other than that... oh, Gladius in the console world, extremely excellent game (for the original Xbox and PS2). Best tactical RPG I've ever played and one of the best games in general.

The most amount of times I've replayed a game is Quake 1, which is 13. That's not an exaggeration.

As for general longevity, I still regularly fire up Quake 3 for quick bot-matches to this day.

Borderlands 2 is the most plays for me @ 3...but that also = about 550hrs.

I've completed XCOM EU 2 times (plus 7 additional failed Ironman attempts)....I'm in the middle of my third Ironman attempt on Enemy Within so I'm technically in my third playthrough of XCOM....I could see myself going after 4 or more.

I usually play through the Call of Duty games twice cause they're so short....I went through dishonored twice so I could experience the sneaker and fighter playthroughs.

A lot. Most recently Bioshock Infinite and Skyrim. If I enjoy a game I'll play it through at least twice. Mostly because I like to find things I didn't notice the first time.

Probably a draw between Deus Ex (original) and System Shock 2. RTS's like Age of Empires & Rise of Nations though will naturally have hundreds of "replays" (by design) so I didn't count them. Likewise I didn't count hundreds of hours on multi-player Arena games (Doom, Quake, etc). Must have racked up a few hundred hours doing all the different classes on NWN too.

I'm not much for re-playing single player & story games. It's like a movie I've already seen. There are exceptions of course like if gameplay choices alter the outcome a lot. Probably looking at max 3 times even then.

Diablo II: LoD, which I've played for approximately seven years, maybe a bit more although the actual amount of time I put in that game is not clear to my memory anymore. I do remember that I started playing it in late 2000 (vanilla D2), then later bought LoD, played it for years, stopped playing it for maybe 3 months, then one day went to the store to buy "a PC game" but ended up buying D2 + LoD again (brand new) and re-started it for another 2 or 3 years. It "definitely stopped" in middle or late 2007 or so, maybe early 2008 (not sure anymore).

So yeah approximately seven years. And by seven years I mean playing the game on a regular basis, pretty much every single day of the week, and for most week-ends, non-stop, without real weekly nor monthly "pauses", for about seven years (except that time when I "stopped" playing it for about 3 months before I decided to buy it again). In retrospect it wasn't just a game, it was an obsession, but to this day I still recognize how simply fun it was, although very addicting as well.

No other games in my whole gaming life has ever come close to that.

The OP's question is a bit vague. Is he talking story based games or any game? Because I've done a crap ton of sudoku and solitaire games. More than anything else. Also there is a ton of Mario Kart, Counter Strike, League of Legends, Quake, Battlefield, and Call of Duty games I've done countless times.

Now as for storyline based games, that is a bit different.

As a kid the original American NES final fantasy I played a shit number of times I can't remember. The other game I played a lot a few times over was Dragon Quest. I played most of the SNES Final Fantasy games many times over as well, but I doubt as much as the original NES games. For PC, I played a crap ton of KOTOR over and over. But if we move on to alts for MMO's and their storylines... I got a bunch in EQ, Wow, and other MMO's out there.

It really is a vague question.

I hardly ever play a game again. The only ones I can think of are Rune (old hack and slash game in the unreal engine), Final Fantasy Tactics, and Dark Souls. I excluded rogue-likes, MP, and civ-style games.

I played Rune again for nostalgia. I played FFT again because it was slightly refreshed on PSP. I play Dark Souls over and over to try different builds and the gameplay is so damn good.
