I've been using Asus GTX670-DC2OG-2GD5 for 3 years and it is dying due to white lines appearance on screen. What graphics card to buy for replacement? My budget is under $230.

IMO, the 4gb RX470 is the best buy right now. Dont know where you are buying, but newegg has one for 140.00 after rebate with a free game: MSI 470 . Seems the best value to me unless you can find a really good deal on a 480 or 1060. The 470 is not that much slower than the 480, maybe 15% or so.

What type of games do you play?
What res monitor do you have?
What are the rest of your system specs?

Based solely on your under $230 comment you can find 480 8gb and 1060 6gb between $200 - $250, so right at the max of your budget. Under that the only alternative is the 470 which can sometimes be had for under $150 after rebates. As for the 1060 3gb model, remember this is not a regular 1060 with only 3gb of vram, is it a cut down model similar to 480 -> 470. They are usually priced far too close to 480s and 1060 6gbs to make it an entertaining option though and 3gb is just meh (not OMG the sky is falling, just bleh) in 2017.

The xfx 480 8gb model linked earlier is a solid card for the price and is what I would recommend as well.

Yea, but that card is 70.00 more expensive than the 470 I linked. Is the extra 4gb of vram and maybe 15 to 20% better performance worth 50% more? One could make a case for it, but to me it isnt. I also agree with you about the 1060 3gb. It is far from the absolutely awful card a lot of people on this forum try to portray it as. Simple fact now though, is that it is too expensive.

3gb is not enough for 1080p but we already have discussed this to death.
Either 470 8GB, 480 8GB or 1060 6GB.
470 8GB for under $200 if available would be first choice.
Sapphire RX470 8GB model available for $210. Good value.

That 470 deal looks pretty great, especially considering the free game (which is a very good one).

Personally, I think 4GB at 1080p is about as suitable as 6GB at 4K (while 3GB at 1080p is more like 4GB at 4K); i.e., plenty. Especially when it's more than the 970 and as much as the 980.

This looks like the best deal on a 480 8GB, but no bundled game and $60 more (both AR).

1060 6GBs don't go any lower than $240 AR right now, so I don't really think they're in the running. Still, you can sometimes see them at around $200.

If you are in the US, 470 4gb for under $150 is best buy out there. Second is 480 4GB for ~$170ish on sale, Third would be a 480 8gb when those go under $200. 1060 6gb never drop as low as those, and its pretty much a weekly deal just depends on what brand that week. Check slickdeals.net or the sales forums out there when you are ready to buy.

Damn $150 for custom 470? Here we pay $250 for it. AMD needs to get its prices under control.

Before buying graphics card, there are other things to consider such as casing, CPU cooler, etc right?

With detail settings maxed out, does graphics card generate more heat and therefore its fan spin faster and make loud noise? Will it affect CPU cooler too?

As a general rule if you plan on playing mostly DX11 titles and less of the newer DX12 and upcoming games then go for the 1060 6GB, the 1060 6GB can be anywhere from 2% up to 15% faster in DX11 titles.

Go for the RX 480 8GB if you plan on playing mostly newer games, especially DX12 titles where AMD has a big advantage. The card is also as fast and faster in some DX11 titles as well like F1 2016 for example, shadow of mordor, Dirt Rally, etc...

Either way you won't make a mistake going for either, so it comes down to price, availability, which games you primarily play or would play and personal preference.

That Arsenal 470 may have a poor cooler, the GPU may get hot and the fans could get loud (I don't have one but the reviews say as much.) For the price it can't be beat.

All GPUs will make heat and aside from the blower type coolers will increase case temps. A lot goes into a GPU decision. All you have said is it's to replace a GTX 670 and under $230. I still think a RX 480 8 gb is the best that fits the bill.

Another vote for the 470. Amd doesn't price their cut down chip correctly relatively to how cut-down the chip is to the full chip, the rx 480. As a result as a consumer that's your best bet to exploit a market inefficiency.

In the US it seems to be a pretty easy decision with the RX470 with a decent free game. At under $150 that's insane value. Sell the game for ~+-$20.00 if you don't care for it for even more savings.

In Canada when the 4GB 480's go on sale, it isn't that much more than a decent model 4GB 470 so I normally recommend grabbing that instead for the extra performance.

The 8GB 470's make no sense to buy as they're usually more money than the 4GB 480's and slower. 8GB is unnecessary on the 470/480 unless you plan on going crossfire down the road. Yes the RAM is a little slower but it has tighter timings and can be overclocked a bit to close the gap.

Here's my spec:

CPU: i5-3470
Mobo: GA-H77M-D3H
RAM: 2x Kingston 4GB DDR3
PSU: S12II-620W
Case: CM K280
Fan: 1 rear fan

I've come down to these two choices: GTX 1050 Ti 4GB or GTX 1060 3GB (or 6GB) Which one to buy to fit my current spec? I play Overwatch mostly or maybe other games in future.

What reason do you have to pay $200 for a GTX 1060 3GB vs $170 for a 470? I'd like to hear from you as I know the stances of the forum members here already.
You're playing 1 game, will the lighting being changed from high to medium to make up any FPS difference between cards hurt you?

The reason I don't advocate the lower end cards right now is there isn't a good deal here. Nvidia is a better company. But that means they're better at pricing and marketing. They use their halo cards to market their lower end cards.

I don't advocate AMD cards because it's the "Best" card. It's because AMD is a poorly run company that still makes a decent graphics card. As a result, sometimes AMD just does some really mindboggling things when it comes to pricing and developing cards. Things Nvidia would never do, since Nvidia delivers record returns to their shareholders, while AMD doesn't understand what a public company is supposed to do.

If you wanted to talk high end gaming, I'd give you whole other advice.

That said, you're talking about $30....
If you want the GTX cards, just get a GTX 1060 3GB, it's the fastest card in your budget, enjoy your free game, and stop wasting time. You'd rather have the GPU and actually enjoy the benefits than wait debating what to get forever. You won't remember these small dollar amounts 2 years from now (we will though)

I've been using Nvidia graphics card since I was young so I stick with it. What do you mean by "You're playing 1 game"? Yes I play Overwatch only. So I buy GTX 1050 Ti is the right choice?

I did not think there were any 390 4GB versions? With that said, a well cooled 290(x) or 390 would be a good idea if you could get them that cheap.

You're absolutely right - brain fart last night
But if you can pickup a non-reference 290 / 290X for around the $100-$125 range, it's hard to beat.

I just had a look on ebay, seems most of the 290 series cards are going for $150+. Some of the better ones well over 200 dollars.
