the reason i want to learn is so that (God forbid), I need to fire it in a stress situation, it won't be my first time.

i myself don't own any... getting a 12 gauge this summer though...

a 40 min ride to the firing range and popping off a few rounds is a good stress reliever... never used one in a stress situation.. don't plan to...

You can never really be trained in a stress situation. You can learn how to handle the gun but until you are in a stress situation you will not know how you will react.

true, but alot of people get guns, shoot them couple of times and think that if they need to use gun fast they will be able which is totally not true.

Yep, but they'll be able to handle their gun likely faster than I could since I've never had my hands on anything but a shotgun skeet shooting

You can't train entirely for a situation and training doesn't replace experience but it sure is better than nothing!

a lot of people (that have lots of training... military/police mostly) go into something called "muscle memory" when they are in a stress situation.

Remington 870 12 ga.
Savage 20 ga / .22 Over Under
.22 ca Revolver <forgot the Manufacturer.... It's in SC and I can't just go look.....
M-1 Garand 30/06
Smith and Wesson .357 Mag

I received training all through my childhood, as my Great Grandfather taught me marksmanship.
Had to hit a Coke bottle cap with the .22 Marlin single shot he had, before I could drink the Coke.
Cokes get hot quick in SC , so you had to hit the cap quick.
No stress shooting training, but plenty of Martial Arts when I was younger..... Judo, Kenpo Karate, Jeet Kun Do....

Adrenaline control is the key.

Take a class.

None currently. I do however plan on getting a handgun in the near future and proper training. Over the years I've noticed my neighboorhood changing, and not for the better.

12 gauge Winchester model 1300 black shadow with rifled deer barrel and bird barrel

I've been shooting for years - I'm 8th bar Sharpshooter with the NRA for small bore rifles and Sharpshooter for shotguns. Unfortunately, I'm in school now, which has put a big damper on my hobby.

No "formal" training but alot of range time and tips, etc. from more experienced shooters.

Also pretty good with the sniper rifle in UT.

Yes, they're pretty cheap. The range I go to has handgun rentals for $7/day, you can trade guns back during the time you're there so it's $7 to try as many guns as you want.

I own a Glock 19, I took a tactical handgun class as soon as I bought it to get a better idea of how to handle it. Training is very important--you can't predict how you'll react in a life-or-death situation but you will fall back on your training.
