I gave up my AIW 8500 for a Slingbox (Classic). IMO, the Slingbox is soooo much better in every way. Not only is the picture (and software) quality better, but I can watch it on any computer in the world.

By the way, if you can find a X1800 XL AIW they OC and in general perform a bit better than the X1900.

DISCONTINUED!, Now that SUCKS, those IDIOTS! Now I REALLY want to get my hands on one! Where did you here that they discontinued them?

They announced it several months ago. The market for AIW cards wasn't that big. A lot of effort goes into making them and writing their drivers and the profit return wasn't high enough to justify it.

Source?

The recent AIW cards aren't listed on ATI/AMD's 'discontinued' products list (the older ones, like the R9XXX AIWs, are). I can't find any official 'announcement' like this.

I can't find anything about them being discontinued either. If it's true, it's odd that we can't find anything.

Just curious, and may be a dumb question but legally does having a TV tuner on the card qualify your PC as a TV? As of last month all TV's for sale the states must support digital TV, analog only is out. Were'nt the AIW's mostly analog tuners? That would be reason enough to discontinue them while designing a new model.

Yes I was surprised no one knew this too. ATI has discontinued the AIW series completely. They now have the Theater 550 and 650 stand alone tuners which have picture quality that blows away the AIW series.

Buy a stand alone tuner, and then you never have to upgrade it when you get a new video card.

if you really want an AIW card I have an AIW 9600 for sale Oh wait, you've already got one, nevermind

But yeah they stopped making AIW cards. I think it is a good idea to make a separate tuner card because that way you can upgrade the graphics card without having to mess with paying the extra for another AIW.

Well, I was really hoping I could get an AIW but I guess I'll just have to get a TV Wonder or get something from Kworld, or Hauppauge.
I really would like the tuner to be able to output video and audio to the TV though. So I might get a Kworld Video magician or WinTV-PVR-350.
I would also like one with a GOOD remote control. You know this is why I'm soo mad they canceled the AIW, it had everything I want! Everything else though doesn't have everything I want.

exactly. I have an AIW x1900 and love it, and when the R600 series comes out, my AIW will be going into my xp media center pc ( perfect use for it I think )

Don't do it, almost any modern video card + a hauppage PVR150/250 would be much better. I don't know about the Kworld card, but PVR-350 is very limited for output, only specific MPEG2 streams IIRC.

I agree I am not sure why you would want the TV output from the tuner card. Modern video cards actually have really really good TV output, especially with AVIVO and PureVideo hardware acceleration.

Well, first of all I'd like to output to the TV because my computer is in a different room than the TV, therefore I need a remote for controlling it. And I'd like the TV tuner to be the output device because they normally have a remote control and graphics cards don't. Although I guess I could buy a Remote Wonder, that is if they are still available. If not, I suppose I could take the Remote Wonder II from my poor, old AIW 9600. I don't know if you guys understand, it's kinda hard to explain, I have a unique situation (as far as I know). Sorry if you don't understand.

But man, I mean what was ATI thinking, they had some very loyal AIW customers just like me. Yet they canceled them, now that REALLY GETS ME UPSET.

The remote doesn't control the TV tuner, it controls the software that comes with it. It doesn't matter what does the output in this case.

If it is in another room then you need the ATI TV tuner because it comes with an RF remote while the MSI and Saphire brand ATI tuners come with a poor IR remote.
