Ha, my son, with part of his landscaping $$ wanted a stereo for the 2002 Accord. Told him that I would pay for the 6X9 (kickers) if he paid for the stereo. Installed all of that today and dropped an AC/DC cd in. Full blast. He opens the door, "That's kinda of loud."...pussy. Sure sounds better than my Tacoma.

$250 OTD, free labor.

Should have fired up some Ministry or Crystal Method Legion of Boom

It has never been a better time to be a music fan than right now. The tools we have at our disposal to find obscure bands of any genre from any country is absolutely astounding, and the cost to listen to this all legally is peanuts compared to its value (the downside being that it devalues good music being how cheap it is, but at least more people are hearing it)

If you can't find music you like in 2017, you need to look harder. There's something for everyone anymore.

Related: The Struts just released a new track and after their first album, they're going to be huge. They have hints of Queen with a modern twist, but the point is that they're making rock fun again. Rock has been so angry and depressing for so long that it's nice to get back to when it was energetic and fun. I still love my metal and heavy rock, but I was so impressed with what I heard from the first album that I bought copies for all of my family.

This is their new track:

Well, I'm certainly happy that I'm old enough to not appreciate DJ Khaled, autotune and fucking Despacito. God! Take that song away from me.

Technology has killed so many art forms. Or at least changed them. Back in the day you had to be able to sing and play actual instruments. Now you can sample some of this, some of that, massage the digital bits with a computer, and out comes "music" that is impossible to actually play live. It's cheap to produce and the masses who can't tell the difference, or have never known anything else, eat it up with a spoon.

Yep technology enabled know nothing rich kids and models to be musicians

I was just discussing this with my daughter today. The availability of so many different and obscure genres of music is astounding. No more going to Kmart and rummaging through the top 40 45rpm singles.

Pretty much, and you aren't tied to listening to whatever popular stuff the radio decides to play. And if you want to play a song again that you haven't bought yet, you don't have to patiently wait for it on the radio and pray that the DJ doesn't talk over the intro as you hit record on your tape deck.

I'm not even that old, but man things have changed a lot. I never would have found the awesomeness that is Finnish Folk Metal like Korpiklaani if it wasn't for the internet. Great time to be alive. You can argue that the production values of modern music isn't great, but you can find more old music these days too if that's your thing.

I'm not a fan of some of the new stuff they play on the alternative rock station around here. Most of the newer songs coming out seem too disjointed. It'll start out sounding pretty good for the first 30 seconds, then they'll break into a chorus that has a completely different sound from the beginning for the next minute, then they'll break into some weird "la la la la la" with a whole orchestra of vocalists, then back to the rhythm from the start of the song for about five seconds, repeat. Must have something to do with everyone's crappy attention spans these days.

I'm still discovering bands I didn't know about from the last four decades that I like now. Just following the thread here at Anandtech has turned me on to a whole bunch of new music.

Finntroll still plays awesome black metal folk polka. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GclKDei5hHU

Leprous are blowing my mind every time they release a song. Prog metal synthwave theatrical avant garde crazy good awesomeness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZSlX1zXnfM

Anathema evolves every album, but still frickin awesome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y1ROzCUpbU

Steven Wilson has new album coming out soon, not sure if I look forward to it that much, as he's going in a mainstream-pop direction that I don't usually appreciate, but I pre-ordered anyhow since he's one of my favorite composers/musicians.

Music changes, but there's always new good bands and new good material coming out, just cat be hidden away at times.

I've posted it before, and I know they're getting radio play around here so they're getting better known, but these dudes from Iceland have the southern rock sound down:

Kaleo - No Good
https://youtu.be/HC6QJsxRypQ

I never would have guessed from that song that they're from Iceland.

holy fuck! that was awesome.

Exact What I thought.

I'm not much of a GWAR fan but they do great covers.
Back story, previous singer died the guy in this video took over (I believe he's a music Professor in Virginia too) hence the tribute at the end and the almost out of character response to the touching tribute question

Im not really a music fan to begin with and then the nonsensical lyrics and high doses of profanity continue to take away from what could be a good song. But my favorite truly is the weird and sudden "la la la la "garbage that just shows that they ran out of things to sing.
