What happened with Driver Sweeper?

What a great piece of software. I used to download it from Guru3D back in the day, but they have a notice now saying that it has been discontinued.

On the other hand, Phyxion.net apparently has the same (or very similar) program available. Did someone take over development, or just move it to a different site? Essentially, is Phyxion.net legitimate?

Also, I havent used anything like that since the old Norton back in WinME. Frankly these days it hasnt been an issue.

Whoops. Forgot all about the software forum. Can a mod move this please?

Driver Sweeper was / is useful for removing remnants of graphics card drivers and whatnot. So, if you were switching from Nvidia to AMD or vice-versa, you could uninstall the previous driver, restart in safe mode, run Driver Sweeper, restart in normal mode, and install the new drivers. Worked like a charm.

Modern graphics driver installers are much better about cleaning up the old stuff when upgrading. Those tools aren't being developed anymore because they simply aren't needed, especially on Vista/7.

@Cursethesky- I believe why guru3d stopped hosting the newer versions was because when you install driversweeper esp on a computer with an active internet connection there is freeware that also installs unless you uncheck the boxes. I believe that there was a disagreement about that because they did not want driversweeper to do that much like other software where it installs toolbars and other not needed software.

yea like hennessy1 says they started adding the optional adware after version 2.10

I used it a few months ago when my Nvidia card died and I swapped in a cheap Radeon while I waited for the warranty exchange. I used the latest version and it was pretty easy to uncheck the adware boxes and it worked just fine.

It is mostly useless software that now comes with adware/malware.

Just use a normal uninstall on video drivers. You will almost never never need to do anything more.

I used a driver cleaner once, and checked the results with benchmarks. No difference. Other than that, I've never used one, and never had problems.
