What happens if car is taking forever for insurance to fix?

My car was broken into and had the radio stolen with damage done to the doors, interior, center console and parking brake.

They said only 5 days but it's coming on 3 weeks now. I am wondering if there is anything I can do? Or just wait?

It's getting annoying as I am paying out of pocket for some of the rental (at ~$8 a day) and I don't really use it, but I have a trip I need a car for this Sunday.

How long can the repair take before I can b*tch about it? It's at a Nationwide approved garage.

Also, it was close to $4000 damage, what's the chances of it getting totalled if they find more damage later on? It's a 2009 RX-8 R3 edition.

I have a feeling that they are having a hard time sourcing parts for it.

How aboot if you call the shop?

They are saying they'll call back. I am going to show up in person tomorrow, but I don't want to piss anyone off.

The guy at the shop didn't seem to be the friendly type at all and will probably be quite the handful if we got into a shouting match...lol. But I hear his shop is pretty good so I didn't mind going there.

Why on earth would you get into a shouting match?

Hes going to go into the shop angry that his car hasnt been ready in 5 days like the estimate that somebody gave him 3 weeks ago.

Its hard to keep yourself composed in that situation unless you are super patient. I know when somebody gives me an ETA for something and that ETA is over with, and whatever thing I was waiting for requires additional period of time, it frustrates the hell out of me, and I suspect the same is true for many others.

I could see a yelling match happening, and I can certainly see somebody having anxiety about the upcomming shouting match/confrontation before the onset of the confrontation, thus causing the stress and anxiety and therefore anger levels to rise.

I would call or walkin and talk to them. 5days vs 3 weeks is unreasonable

Seems the most productive method would then be to have the insurance company check progress, or call again. Going into a situation where one is looking forward to a shouting match doesn't seem wise, especially given this predicted shouting match is with the person(s) responsible for repairing one's car...

Sorry to hear about the break in to the RX8, but you live in the Bronx, which was and may still be a very high crime area of New York. I used to own an 1980 and 1981 and 1985 RX7 and I can not tell you how many times it was broken into. As to protecting your radio, my best advice would be a Truck Club on the Steering Wheel installed so that the handle is obstructing the radio area. That would deter most robbers.

Got the car back and I am not happy.

They completely missed one repair - but they bought the part and it's on it's way for Monday.

The bigger problem is - the manager of the garage said that they couldn't find an original harness for my car, and had to source one from Crutchfield. Fine, I don't care. But now the buttons on my steering wheel don't work, and my aux input doesn't work.

I am kind of really pissed because I rely heavily on steering wheel controls and listen to music on Pandora/Spotify and Soundcloud. I don't have a computer at home with a CD burner, and I really don't care to burn CDs.

Looking at the radio closely I believe it's the wrong model, but not sure until I look at it. I believe they stuck a Series 1 model RX-8 radio in there when I have a Series 2.

Ugh. I am happy I took it to a Nationwide shop - he's going to take a look at it again and promised to make it good.

I have a case if my steering wheel controls and Aux don't work right????

Check out MazMart for both new and used Mazda parts ... they have a huge inventory.

http://christyre.********/mazmar

TEL: 800-221-5156

I'm not buying anything. They got $4000 to do the job right.

Now I noticed my Dash is blinking, I have scratches all over the interior, they were asked to paint over the door but didn't remove the dings (they painted over them only) and cut my freaking harness behind the radio and now my steering control buttons don't work.

They also used Armor All in my interior which pisses me the hell off. Why did they do that? I bet it was to hide scratches.

I could have fixed the fucking car myself with my own damned hands. I am extremely pissed and they are brushing me off.

You do not need to buy the items. Let the shop know they may be able to find the parts they need at that salvage yard. In a lot of cases, a new part just can not be had. Either the manufacturer stopped making it or certain parts are just not provided.

can you provide the name of national repair? I would just take it back and tell them your issues. The ding is a goodwill if they fix it not their responsibility even if they told you they were going to fix it. If it was part of the damage then they are obligated to fix the ding.
YOu should now demand some compensation for the loss of use.

Misleading thread title. Insurance isn't fixing your car. They are paying for the repairs, but are not doing the work. You need to take this issue up with the garage or repair facility, the same thing that others have said.

hell yes. theres a module they could have put in there to retain the steering wheel controls if it was an aftermarket replacement, but if it is a stock replacement it should have been direct swap, no changes. they either hooked it up wrong, forgot something or put in a different head unit.
