What happens if you accidentally drop a Stick of Memory?

Just as the title reads. I was working on a friend's system when this happened. This drop was from within a case, so it's about 1.5 Feet. It was a stick of RDRAM, and it hit the video card first, and then fell onto the floor of the case.

What damage could have been done? What is the shock resistance of RDRAM? Any help will be appreciated.

AFAIK .. solid state devices shouldn't be affected by that .. the only thing I would worry about is potential charge from the metal case or what not, I think you should be fine. Have you tried it?

I drop them all the time and nothing bad ever happened.

However, the one I stepped on never worked again. :disgust:

It'll bounce probably, then just lay there. Easy way to find out - stick it in a system. From only 1.5 feet there shouldn't be much problem. There's no moving parts in RAM, so that greatly increases its shock resistance over stuff like CD-ROMs and hard drives.

Plug it in, hit the power switch and if the system comes up then don't sweat it...

When you drop any solid-state electronics like that, you can pretty much be sure it's OK as long as there is no visible physical damage.
