Here's what I can recall

Commodore 64 - 6502 - 1 MHz
386-20
Intel 486 DX2-50 (Had buyer's remorse so I returned it)
Intel 486 SX-25
IBM 486 SLC2-50
Cyrix Cx486-DX 40
AMD DX4-100
Cyrix 6x86-133
AMD K5-200
Intel Celeron 366 (and the Abit BP6 motherboard!)
AMD K6-2 300
AMD K7-500
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 650
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1000
AMD Athlon XP 1500+
AMD Athlon 64 2500
AMD Athlon X2 3800+
AMD Phenom II X4 940

I really miss the days of Cyrix, AMD, Winchip, NexGen, and Transmeta being around and all the different CPUs being offered.

Not sure on all the dates.

1998 - First used free computer Intel 66 mhz
1999 - AMD K6-II 300
1999 - AMD K6-II 380
2000 - AMD Duron 600 mhz @ 1 Ghz
2000 - AMD Athlon 1 Ghz
2001 - Athlon XP 1400+
2001 - Athlon XP 1600+
2001 - Athlon XP 1900+
2002 - P4 2.4 Ghz Northwood @ 3.0 Ghz
2003 - P4 3.0 Ghz Northwood @ 3.6 Ghz
2008 - Core2Duo E8400 3 Ghz @ 3.7Ghz
2012 - Core i5 2500K 3.3 Ghz @ 4.4 Ghz

The AMD's were all overclocked as well, but I can't remember how much, only that it was never much at all, except the Duron.

9 processors upgrades in the first 5 years, and only 2 in the last 10 years. Things sure have changed.

Hmm the first PC I built myself had an Athlon XP 3000 I think, socket A?
Then a s939 A64 3200+ a year or two later
I think I actually kept that until 2009 when I got a P2 X3 720
And then like 2 months ago upgraded to a FX-6300

I used to buy HP systems thinking I was getting a good deal with the employee discount where I worked. I had a couple of those and they had single core Celerons and Pentiums. Then I started building my own systems.

Main system:
Core 2 Duo E6750
Core 2 Duo E8400
Core 2 Quad Q9550 (still in use)

Secondary systems:
Celeron E3400
Pentium E5200 (3)
Core 2 Duo E7200

2007 C2Q 6700@3.5ghz
2012 i5 2500k@4.7ghz

Big lull between 2007 to 2012 as i just realized the CPU was not my bottleneck for my performance in the apps I was running. So during that time I upgraded
1) 64bit and windows 7
2) 4gb to 8gb to 16gb of ddr3
3) SATA 1 to 2 to 3
4) 9800gt to gtx 470

Now I have upgraded my sandy bridge with 32gb of DDR3, GTX 660ti, soon to be coming SSD SATA3 drives

Well I was actually late to the game, eg. being interested in Computers. So most of them were supplied by my parents and I did not have much say in it and I also don't know the actual brands of the CPUs they used:

286 (no idea what exact make and model)
486 (sx, 25 mhz not sure)
486dx 66 Mhz
Pentium 200 Mhz and Pentium MMX 233 Mhz (family had 2 PCs at this point)
Pentium 4 2.6 and 2.8 Mhz
Core 2 Duo E4300
i7-870 (in use, the first one I actually built myself)
