1997 - Pentium 2 233MHz I paid over 500$ for that thing, the most expensive CPU I've ever bought, that's what no competition does

K6-2 350MHz or 400MHz

I fell for the MHz, it wasn't a big improvement but it was dirt cheap in comparison

K6-2 500MHz

Athlon 800MHz

almost as expensive as the first one, it was the first time AMD actually surpassed Intel in CPU performance.

Athlon T-bird 1400MHz

that thing was very hot for its time

Athlon XP 1700+
a stellar overclocker, I overclocked it by about 60%!

Athlon 64 3200+ socket 754

Athlon X2 3800+

VERY expensive sadly that was the last AMD CPU that competed successfully with Intel. P4 was slower, Yonah was close but it was hard to get a good mobo for it and it was generally a bit difficult to run it as desktop

Core 2 Duo E6400

that was the most overclock-able CPU I've ever had, actually one of the best overclocker ever in modern times. 2.13GHZ@3.6GHz was cool!

Core i5 750
Core i5 2500K

Most of the time I preferred to spend more money on the graphics card because gaming was the only thing that I always felt I had too little performance in. It still feels that today. The only time that I had enough was when I built a 6990 Quad Fire rig but only when CF was working, if it worked better it would make no sense to side-grade to Titan but Titan it's still the stupidest purchase I've ever made when it comes to computers. If 780 lands at 600$ I will be angry that I basically wasted 400$.

Tandy 1000ex - eventually upgraded it to a full 640k of ram and a 3.5" single density floppy.
Packard Bell 386 with 3mb ram.
486sx25
Cyrix piece o' shit that I can't remember
Pentium 233
Celeron 300a at 450
Pentium III 800, I think it was
Several AMD processors
Core2Duo 6500, iirc
Core2Duo e8400 (Rebuilt as a file server and running Ubuntu today)
Corei3 1st generation (HTPC, still going)

laptops only (I need portability)

pentium 4 3.2--toshiba--screen died, norton killed it (overheated running a virus scan)

Core 2 duo T5500 (1.66 ghz)--still works but slow as hell

i7-2630qm dell--overheated like crazy, poor screen, basically fell apart for mobile use (power cord frayed, battery at 30% capacity, unable to upgrade drivers--don't buy dell). Other family members use it not.

i7-3630qm--working fine so far, have a three year warranty so don't plan on upgrading for a while.

OK, let me try to remember, since 2002, because before that I used my family PC (since the 486 days until the P3).

Pentium 4 2GHz(Northwood), Athlon XP 2600+(TbredB), Athlon XP 1700+(TbredB), Athlon 64 3000+(Winchester), Sempron 2600+(Palermo), Sempron 3000+(Manila), X2 4000+(Brisbane), E5200, E5400, X3210, i3 2100

I have and had other CPUs, but that's from my main PC.
the current i3 and the 1700+ are probably the ones that lasted longer...

I'm young, so mine is quite short but...
2000: Pentium III 500E 500 MHz (Coppermine)
2007: Core 2 Duo E4400 @2.00 GHz
2012: FX 4100 OC'd to 4.2GHz

And hopefully...
2013: FX 8320 OC'd to 4.2-4.5 GHz

Don't remember the years but usually I buy 6-12 months after the product has been released

Pentium D dual core
E6600
E8400
Q9550
I7-875k
I7-2600k (I have a feeling I will be staying at this one for a long long while given the latest intel has been putting out. Use anand's bench to compare a i7 3960x to a 2600k and you'll be shocked at how the 2600k is often the faster chip)

Does a Pickett Slide Rule in the Fall of 1969 in college count as a starting point?

Thats it, I'm rather new compared to all you guys.
