What have others done with their large and heavy CRTs?

I have an extremely heavy Sony WEGA (200lbs) and I'm puzzled of how to dispose of it. I might have a mover place it in the basement until I can figure out what to do with it. But I've also considered 1-800-got-junk. I figure they both will charge me $150 to take care of this television.

What have the rest of you done with your last generation large & extremely heavy televisions that you had no intention of every using again?

Yep. Or even put it up on craigslist for $50. I'd bet someone would buy it off of you assuming it still works.

Having moved one of those 34" WEGA up two flights of stairs with just one other person helping, I can honestly say that is one of the biggest PITA item that I ever had to move. Never again.

if it still works, there are plenty of people willing to take that off your hands on craigslist. List it for 50$ cash and make a note that the buyer is responsible for moving it.

Have a Sony 36" HS420, 720P HD set. About 260lbs. While huge the picture quality is glorious!

Bedroom TV is a Toshiba 32" CRT flat screen non-HD.

Craigslist is the only way to go!

I have a 36" SD Panasonic Tau that's getting no use now as well. I may give it to my neighbor as it's just a hair too big for the entertainment center downstairs.

They do weigh a ton!! I'm thinking of getting rid of ours. It's currently upstairs in our bonus room (read: man cave). I REALLY don't feel like moving the sucker again either.
I'm iffy on Craig's list stuff. I'm sure I can find some of the local college guys to get it. I'm sure they would like it!

I have a Mitsubishi 35" CRT (CS-35401) in my bedroom. I have no idea how much it weighs, but it definitely takes me and at least one other person to lift it. I pulled a groin sliding it across the room on the rug.

It gives a great picture still, but a 37" LCD will fit perfectly in my entertainment center.

:sigh:

Sold it locally. It was a Sony 30" HS420; great picture.

Seriously. I never thought I'd actually need 3 people to move a TV until I got a Sony 34inch CRT. No wonder they built handles into the actual set.

Yeah, I never understood why not all large TVs were made with handles. What, like not having handles makes it seem like the TV is not heavy? (Kinda like the logic of not putting seatbelts in cars in the 1950's because it made the cars seem unsafe.)

My Sony is an infidel- cursed be to you Sony!

I have housed you, moved you, tried to fix you when you were sick. But you never got better. Fat 200lb. bastard, not even your Super Fine Pitch can save you now!

If anyone has any suggestions on how to annihilate this POS, I would be most grateful.

What I really want to know is wtf kind of material that CRT screen is made of. When I was moving I nailed the screen right into the corner of a dresser. The TV wasnt even scratched, but the corner of the dresser was dented.

In a war between an aluminum bat and a sony CRT, I've got my money on the CRT. I've a feeling nothing short of a 50 cal is going to penetrate that beast. If you're serious about annihilation, you'll probably want to look into explosives.

Having seen the prices on used 36" and 40" Wegas on CL, I've been hinting at the wife that now would be a good time to dip our toes in the HD waters. I think I'm slowly wearing her down, but that might change if/when she sees how large/heavy they are, especially the 40" set.

My first HDTV was a 34-inch Sony WEGA which I still have & really like, but I do dread the day it has to be moved again ... last time I hired two BIG guys to do it & it took everything they had to get it up my 5 front steps!

Put it on CL for $50 if its one on the none-HD models & maybe $125 obo if its HD & mention they need to come get it.
