What if all the men disappeared from the surface of the earth?

Hypothetical question.

I've thought about this for some time now. Assuming one day men as well as all the sperm within sperm banks disappeared from earth. There was no reason, trace or explanation but one day they are gone. How would the existing women on earth handle the situation. I'm not asking this to debate the intellectual ability of men or women, both genders are of equal capabilities. I'm asking how do you think they will band together to continue the human race. Would they try to use the existing scientific data to create other more men (genetic engineering)? Would they keep it female only, since it might mean less wars, violence, etc? Would the world be a better place?

Now let's also ask the question in reverse. Considering that men do not contain a womb, etc, how will they create life? How will they deal with this situation, will they try to create women?

Just some thought, I'm not trolling, i'm serious about this....

Assuming perfect distribution, you'd probably fine almost every career sector half-manned, which would likely be disastrous in the realms of generation/distribution of food, power, medical services, and general goods. Beyond the obvious economic collapse, you'd likely have a complete collapse of humanity within a year or 10. Remaining individuals would likely not be able to perform sufficient medical science to resolve a two-sex species in a one-sex environment before dying out (less than 100 years, maximum).

The male dominated fields (engineering, sciences) would be pretty vacant, but females have infiltrated every single field/major/industry. There will be a 50% decrease in total world population (assuming male/female is roughly 50/50). So the burden to provide or sustain the population will be much less. Those existing women might be enough to support the existing, while recruiting more women into those fields.

The biggest issue would be filling in the gaps for the economic, scientific, labor positions etc...

Are there any industries that have no women?

Probably not, but there's many that are male dominated as you said. Farming might be the biggest outlier with a dramatic effect on the human condition. Hard to feed 3B people unless you've got a strong food generation/distribution system, and you won't have that if there's a brain drain of that level overnight.

EDIT: My numbers were off.
https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/03/140308-international-female-farmers/
Worldwide, 8% of females are in agriculture, 11% of females.
It's very regional however, nearly 50% in east asia/sub-saharan africa.
https://www.agcensus.usda.gov/Publications/2012/Online_Resources/Highlights/Farm_Demographics/
In the US, it's 14% for female, that'd suck hard for world beef and corn.

So lets say theres a big "die off" due to lack of resources, it will "taper off" at some point. Where the resources that can be provided will sustain the existing population. Equilibrium.

Assuming you can still reproduce, yes. But the moment you rid the world of one sex, you've got a very hard time limit upon which someone's gotta science the shit out of a solution to make more babies before the last person dies.

I think one of the first things to happen would be the legalization of human cloning as a stopgap measure. The consequences to infrastructure and economy would be catastrophic, probably survivable though not everywhere. It would be a real mess for years.

Judging by how well women get along with each other in the workplace, I predict that a species-ending cataclysm would occur within a few hours. Then the cockroaches would take over.

Wrong...I worked with women for my entire career. There aren't a lot of tbem i the building trades...but they're there.
I've done construction for 30 years, and aside from the rare truck driver, I might have seen a woman once. That's close enough to zero. Like Jamaican bobsledders. Saying Jamaicans don't bobsled is close enough to being right.

You probably didn't know about Rosy the riveter. Women were called to do these things during wartime. They did a good job and did it well. If women are forced to (considering the circumstances). Then you will have a lot of women construction workers.

I know all about WWII. Doesn't change the fact women aren't in construction.

You sound pretty dumb. Connect the dots here. Those women were sent out to work due to wartime effort. Now with no men they would be sent out again to do those once masculine dominated jobs.

Point is they previously demonstrated their ability to perform the work. I imagine since there have been a steady increase of women in the workplace as well as those above-mentioned fields, you'd have more women and more effective.
