What, if anything, impresses you about where you live?

Name something cool, interesting, or even boring and useless about the town you live in that impresses you.

I'll kick things off... every day I don't know what I may see flying overhead. Some days it's F-16's, some days it's a huge Sikorsky, some days it's a massive commercial cargo jet, some days it's a C-130, some days it's Apache's, some days it's a Kiowa Warrior, and every day it's commercial airliners.

It's fun being in a town with a ton of DoD contractors, an army base, an airport and Boeing, LMCO and Grumman.

Our town is the safest in the US, 2 years in a row, cops here are assholes though.

There is always something to do. Great food, beaches, mountains, good weather year round. I love it here.

The cost of living here impresses me. You can live extremely well in the Indy metro area compared to most parts of the country, and Indy is close to many other cities if you need to get away. Chicago is only 2.5 hours away, for example.

I can get acreages of property for reasonbly cheap, have a quiet rural life with a good school district, still have high speed internet and only have a 15 minute drive to work. And still be paid reasonably well for the work I do.

I don't have mountains, beaches, or overly desireable temps 6 months out of the year, but there's some definite perks outside of that.

I live 20mins from Disneyland and my family has annual passes so we can go as much as we want. My two daughters love it.

we had 2 breweries started here: Labatts and Carling.

we had a multiple murder trial here back in the 1880s.

we had a ferry disaster that made world headlines back in 1881 killing 182 people.

we were terrorized by a group called the Balaclava Bandits. 3 heavily armed, amateur and very unstable guys that went on a crime spree back in 1993. They killed 2 men and wounded several with their brazen daylight robberies. link: http://www.lfpress.com/news/london/2010/11/05/15984556.html

No doubt that Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in N/A. Plus you have such a diverse population that just about any sort of food you want, you can get. But damn do you pay a premium for the views.

Not only that, but wages are lower here (in general) than in other places in the country because people will take less to live here. I'm moving to Toronto next year for work and not only are wages higher, but prices for pretty much everything are much lower too.

In fact, I could drive to all three of those in less time than my Dad could get from his house to downtown LA, which is about 30 miles from his place.

Born and raised. 3 min to work. Low property tax. Comparatively low crime rate.

My town has a pretty young crowd, and is probably one of the more "happening" towns in the area with all of the events, festivals, whatever. Plus it's pretty low COL and only about 12 miles from downtown/work.
