It would rather likely be a serious mistake on the part of "mainlanders" and the PLA to assume that the US it unable or unwilling to do anthing about it.

The window for the PRC to use military force to take Taiwan is rapidly closing. One the US has a workable anti-ballistic missle defense, China's deterrent will become almost worthless because they do not have enough ICBMs to overwhelm the system.

i can't seem to understand why the US acts like a pussy everytime it comes to China.... slap some tariffs on their imports and watch them pee their pants. they can't survive a day without exports to the US

China's military is way overrated. They lack a vehicle to move their troops even by ground. Their Navy and Air Force are terrible compared to ours and other countries, and their ICBM capabilities and numbers are much less as well. China's population is their only asset, but I can imagine with a population that large and the invasion of capitalism that there is little chance for public support of an invasion of Taiwan...
