What if, months from now and the war is over...

...and we find NO evidence of WMDs? I'm still on the fence about this war, but gorw a little more uneasy about it every day.

For starters it will be the most embarassing fiasco for a presidential adminstration ever, and the US will have alienated itself from the entire world.

Personally I don't think it matters. Saddam admitted having WMD himself, so that doubt is removed. He also agreed to destroy all of them AND PROVIDE THE EVIDENCE THIS WAS DONE. If he had, this war wouldn't even be happening.

They willl find some though, there are plenty of current and former Iraqi scientists that know where to look. His programs were designed so that the scientists spent 50% of their time developing WMD, and the other 50% was dedicated to HIDING them, this consideration also heavily influenced their delivery and storage systems. This is one thing consistent with all the interviews, this division of time.

3000 chemical suits and nerve agent antidotes were found by marines in just one location. Hmmm, why would the iraqis need chemical suits and nerve agent antidotes? If you need a link to the story, let me know.

I dont want to question your reasoning but why do u think does about every army I know of have chemical suits and nerve agent antidotes?

Or does that mean that about every country posseses WMD and therefore the US should first go to war with every country and then with themselfes?

Hmmmm could it possibly be that they are worried about Iran or other countries which have chemical/biological weapons like most of their neighbors attacking them. Could it be they are as worried about the US attacking them with chemical/biological weapons as the US is about Iraq using them? I dare say that if somebody invaded the US and reached Camp Lejune that invader would find huge stockpiles of chemical/bio suits.

Just playing devils advocate. Just because somebody puts a certain spin on the news that doesn't mean that is the truth or the only explanation.

In addition to the other responses, perhaps they once had chemical weapons but destroyed them? There's no reason to destroy perfectly good suits as well...

I dunno, perhaps leftover equipment. I've got a working theory though, propoganda.

Iraq may have left these old and useless(to them) items in areas they thought would be captured, just to make the Coalition think twice. It's kinda flimsy, but so far no WMD have been found and you've got to wonder why these items were in storage rather than with the troops who would likely be ready to use such weapons.

Coalition troops are currently too spread out for effective WMD delivery. It's been my opinion since the war started that the Iraqi military would go to ground in and around Baghdad; then, when coalition troops are massed around Baghdad, use their WMD and try to capitalize on the confusion it would create in the lines.

I think it could take several years for the Coalition to find WMD if they don't find them right away. Remember, Iraq is a lot of desert, and Saddam has had 12 years to find a nice hiding spot.

There would also be no reason to forward deploy them. They found them in a hospital being used as a command center not in a military base warehouse.

I personally believe that Saddam has WMDs but I agree that having 3,000 suits and antidotes prove nothing. This is not proof or evidence. We've got more than 3,000 suits and various bio/chemical antidotes ourselves. Does that mean we are going use WMDs?

Or maybe they parked in Syria as Israel claims. No wonder the UN couldn't find anything. They've been looking at the wrong place.

That makes sense although attempting to defend Baghdad with chemical/biological weapons might do serious damage to the defenders as well, depending on the proximity of the fighting.

No Sign Yet of Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction

Quote

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Twelve days into the invasion of Iraq, there is no sign of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's suspected weapons of mass destruction, the primary rationale for the U.S.-led war now pummeling the country.
...
"It's impossible to prove a negative, but Iraq maintained that its weapons were destroyed and the U.S. maintained Iraq was lying. That's what this war was supposed to be about," said Jon Wolfsthal of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
...
The Washington Post reported on Sunday that U.S. special forces had already pursued their 10 best intelligence leads in Iraq but came up dry at each location.
...
But U.S. officials are leaving themselves wiggle room in case the weapons do not materialize. Rumsfeld said "dozens of trucks" had been seen moving things out of one facility, "so there may be nothing left."
...
Even if WMD are found in Iraq, Bush could have a problem -- convincing a skeptical, often hostile world the United States did not "plant" the arms to justify its case against Saddam. For that reason, key European leaders have urged Washington to involve U.N. inspectors in the hunt, something U.S. officials oppose.

By then no one will care. Even if we find them a large part of the world will assume we planted them there.

If we can bring peace, order and, dare I say, happiness to the Iraqi people after this is over, no one will care about the details.

Personally I think that's an incredible longshot, but I hope I'm wrong.
