So that book wasn't on the recommended list until grade 11-CCR so most people reading it would be even older than the class in question.
I see a lot of books on that list that include murder (pretty extensively I might add), war, starvation, in depth descriptions of killing someone by burying them alive in a crypt to get revenge and how they got away with it, alcoholism, child abuse but everyone gets up in arms about a couple of lines describing sex? Seems about right...
And what? No anti-sex love for the Odessey? Come on - the guy was Calypso's sex slave for like 8 years. Even worse - he was married to someone else! Every other female character he encountered wanted to\tried to entrap him with sex
