Running an E8500 right now, stock speeds. Holds its own in the performance department for now. May rebuild at the end of the year though.

The amount of quad users on this forums is amazing, that's what I call cpu enthusiasts! Shocked at the Corei7 users!! That's a pretty expensive chip!

I still cannot afford a full motherboard + memory + CPU upgrade, so I'm sticking with my E8400, I've recently got a stable 3.6 over-clock on it, it helped remove the bottleneck in some games, overall I'm happy with it, I know I'd be "happier" with a better system, obviously, but I can still run anything I own smoothly. I'll wait for Sandy Bridge for a full system upgrade, in the meantime I'll keep my E8400 running.

Just replaced a q9400 with a q9550. I blew up the q9400 after accidentally setting the voltage to high. It was late, too much wine and I think I thought I was adjusting the Memory Voltage. Boy did I really struggled to get 4 modules running. Reboot after reboot, and a fried CPU later I'm now running. I'm also under-volting(relative to the default board setting) my Q9550 and it seems happy at 3.4Ghz. I've had it up to 3.52 with little effort.

i7-920 @ stock. Just got my megatron in, gonna fire that puppy up tonight. Even at 2.66, it feels significantly faster than my Q9550 @ 3.2ghz, surprisingly. I didn't think I would feel a difference at all, but it's VERY noticeable. I am extremely pleased with the upgrade

Perhaps however those IBT shots are incomplete. IMO you should be testing using a much larger problem size so all of your system ram is tested. This makes the test run much longer and stress things much more. Most systems that are fairly stable can do five passes with 1GB. Bump that to 4GB and 20 passes and they fail.

I find that an extremely small 16MB test size setting LinX to 300 minutes is a good VRM/PSU tester since the system bounces from high VRM load to unloaded. It's the equivalent of having a psycho person's hands on the light switch flipping on and off as fast as they can for five hours.
Wouldn't this be hell on a CPU pushing the voltages with LLC enabled? Maybe we finally found a way to test if overshoot is that big of a deal or not. I vote someone tests it out for the good of the forum (nose goes)
