Seriously, could not agree more. I got a 740 turbo wagon after years of hating volvos...one drive and I was hooked. Its the fastest car I've ever owned, and all I have ever owned are V8's (67 gmc hotrod, 80 malibu and 81 monte carlo).

My station wagon can outrun any honda on the road, I beat a corvette the other day (80's) and it can still haul cargo as well as it hauls ass!

(mind you, I upped the boost, added 3" exhaust and an intake) All for about $3k canadian.

Are you a turbobricks member?
An upgraded IC, and turbo can go a long way.

I've got an S70 T5 in excess of 300hp.

Is it possible to be a RWD volvo owner and not be a turbobricks member?

you are in no shape to get a FR car for that type of money. Why don't you put it aside until you get $20-30k

For that price range, if you do want to settle with FF, then integra or prelude would be the choice.

the bottom line is: you can't really get a fast FR sport car with that type of money unless you know how to restore some older car.

I bought an FR car for 7K and it's in great shape

Not a sports car, though, not even close - its a '97 lincoln town car.

240SX S13 style, they can be had in coupe, hatchback, or convertible form. $3,000 gets you one in great shape with relatively low miles. The engines go forever and trannsy too.

For more speed, spend $2-3K and swap in a turbocharged RB20 engine from Japan.

Another great choice:

MR2 from the early to mid 90's

most of those cars have been modified and arent original anymore...and the prices have been inflated to ridiculous heights just cuz america found out theres this thing called drifting, but ill keep them in mind.

Prices on Bay Area Craigslist look good!

As far as I know a lot of the 240sx have had some collision with drifting fans bumping into stuff or running off road.
I don't think $3k will get you a great shape w/ low miles unless it was in some accidents or some other electronic glitches.
Look to spend about $5k for a good shape w/ low/medium miles.
The interior is pretty crappy, but it is in the 90s.
Those will be some of the best "fun" cars if modded correctly.

What about AWD? I've seen a few Talons lately that people have and they seem to be a pretty good deal, AWD + Turbo, you can mod those for a decent amount of power IIRC.

might as well be looking at wrx's then, eclipse and talon awd are pretty rare also i think.

Nissan 300ZX or 240SX....

You could also get a Miata if you don't mind a tiny car...or the stereotype.

AWD talon/ecplipses aren't rare they just aren't very reliable. 300zx are really sweet looking cars but finding a turbo for $8k that isn't a POS isn't easy and the non-turbos are turds.

Two friends of mine have e36s (1995 318 and 1993 325)...i have gotten a chance to drive both of them...i need something more powerful than the 150 weeny horsies in the 318...other than that...the price of the cars as a whole is a littel too much... but worth it maybe...

I'd love to hear some inputs of sports car rear wheel drive owners as well as FF sports cars.

Just picked up a 1995 Mustang Gt Convertable with every option for 6k
only has 70k original Miles..

should definatly look at stangs they are one of the funnest cheapest cars you can get.

I would think you could find a 300ZX. I sold my 91 TT 3 years ago for $6500. It wasn't perfect, but was mechanically sound and a 9 out of 10 cosmetically. $10k should buy you something decent and it is a hell of a car. (the non turbos, not really anything special though)

Get a late '90s F-body. 300HP, lots of parts available for them, and fun to drive. You just have to get over the image that some people here have of the people who drive them.
