None of the sites that sell them tell much about what they are. Have any of you used one before, and how useful are they for case mods?

well it's a hand-powered cutting tool that looks like this ( Nibbler )

I have one and I cut a 120mm hole in the back of my case with it, it will make your hand sore, but for the price it's worth it.
it kinda takes a tiny "bite" out of the case everytime you squeeze the handle, it's also very good at making straight lines but not so good at curves

Hmm, that sounds like the tool for me then. I get chills at the thought of taking a jigsaw to my hard earned case :Q

I used one to cut out a lot of the metal behind the front of my case, for my watercooling radiator. Your hand will hurt, take some prophylactic ibuprofen. Cuts pretty straight, very very slowly, makes a huge mess with little metal shrapnels.

Bah, if I decide to do a blow/suck hole (Still gotta do the smoke test..), I'll either use a hole saw or use the nibler a little at a time.

MaximumPC reviewed the nibbler; they didn't like it - it just takes too long to make large, accurate cuts, and it'll wear your hand out too.
If I remember right, they prefered a holesaw (fan holes), jigsaw (large case windows), or their overall favorite, the Dremel, for just about anything.

Nibbler is this worm that crawls around rooms eating nuclear apples that makes him bigger like Godzilla but nibbler is a wimp so when he bumps into the wall or himself your computer explodes.

I have used the Radio Shack nibbler before and it does work well. It can cause hand fatigue and the metal shards are messy. I used mine for straight cuts, curves and right angles. I recently just bought this other type from Kool PC Mods for $13 and I like it alot better. Instead of nibbles, it cuts a strip that curls as it goes and almost no sore hands.

Right now I live in an apartment. Nibblers are great because they allow me to cut holes while working in my living room late at night. No noise and little mess. Once I have a garage again I'll go back to using my Dremel and other power tools.

Yes, they'll make your hand sore. IMO they aren't very messy. Sure, there are little bits of metal, but with a bit of care you can aim them at a trash can. Saws/dremels/etc. make a lot of racket and leave metal dust all over. Nibblers have their place. BTW, I prefer using my dremel for small mods, jigsaw for larger. Just have to work outside with eye protection and earplugs.
