I just installed V3 tweaks program and would like to know what O/C is safe with standard cooling. Thanks for your help.

Try ~180Mhz to start with. Run a few tests...look out for things like glitches, snow, tearing etc (which means things are getting too hot). From there, just add a couple of Mhz each time following the same pattern of looking for glitches. Good luck.

In case you're worried. All that happens when you put it too high is that the game with either show major artifacts or will freeze. Simply reboot, readjust the clock rate, reboot again and test

I got one in my other computer. It's sweet spot is 179. Anything higher and it will eventually lockup. Even got one of those Tennmax Stealth V3 coolers thinking I could bust 190 or so. No luck, got the same speed, 179. Must be a video memory thing. The V3 now resides in my daughters computer. Now if I could only get my V5 past 180!!!
178 sounds about right...

Any time you overclock you run the risk of frying something. If you want to play you might have to pay. I've been lucky. I actually have 2 v3's and a v5. The best deal was the v3 2000 which is running at 175 for about 6-8 months now. The 3000 has been running for about the same time at 179 and the v5 at 180 since I got it 4 months ago. I had to pay my price on Diamond Viper 770 TNT2 ultra. I fried that bad boy overclocking the core. Wierd thing was it ran D3D and Opengl fine but 2D desktop had little dots all over. Couldn't get rid of them no matter what speed I set it at. Couldn't return the card cause I modded the heatsink and fan. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. I'm winning so far. Check my systems. I like Voodoos. I'm hoping the V5s drop to about $50 so I can buy a couple.

I've had my V3 2000 since April '99 and been running it at 180 since about then. I used some non-conductive thermal paste to mount another heatsink on top of the card, right above the chip. (Careful, you could short the card if you make contact). A Nidek blower cools both heatsinks by blowing from the edge of the card.

Still runs everything I throw at it...the card of the century :~)
