This deserves a second. Guess I'm just one of those that finds the Saw type movies to be silly gorefests. Kids f'd with my mind though cause it was so real. Same with City of God.

The cube? Wow... I wish there were some way for me to flag people who voted for cube or event horizon so I know in the future to never listen to anything they say about movies. Those two movies were truly awful. Cube was awful not just because it was cheesy, cliched, and not substantially different than numerous B sci fi tv show episodes I'd seen, but also because it was ludicrously predictable. Again, the only disturbing thing about that movie was that people actually thought it was good.

Just saw perfume. That was pretty disturbing in a talented mr ripley sort of way.

yea.. the Ring is cheezy now, but that's because of all the remakes.. When it first came out, it was very scary!!! I had to leave my lights on that night... something about paranormal folks reaching out from the grave to take revenge on people..

q]

Jeezus. I remember lying in bed, covers tucked up under my chin, eyes glued to the closet door just incase it moved a millimeter after seeing The Ring. I was ready to leap out the ***** window. By 4am the terror was so intense I had to wake up my girlfriend, go downstairs and watch TV till the fear passed.

The only other film that had anywhere near that effect on me was watching The Grudge on halloween. I knew the ghost was going to come up under the bedsheets, but I screamed like a girl when I saw it.

Horror/psychological movies usually don't bother me, but I swear I'll never watch another Japanese ghost film ever again (even if Buffy is in it)

The first one was pretty good in a campy/B-grade Sci-fi movie kind of way. The second one was complete and utter crap with gratuitous T&A.

Sounds like I would like the 2nd one more.

Event Horizon
Devil's Advocate was a bit disturbing as well.

The Hills have Eyes has a disturbing scene or two but the plot was too ridiculous to take the movie seriously.

Event Horizon sucked. I can't believe so many people bothered listing it. I guess because it starts out like it might be a good sci-fi movie, but in the end it's just a bad ghost ship movie.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Glitter. I haven't seen it because I heard it was absolutely horrific.

I didn't like Old Boy, but I watched a dubbed version and the voice acting was terrible. Maybe I'll try to watch the subtitled version sometime.

The thing about requiem for a dream is that it's real. It happens a thousand times a day in America.

Another weird one worth mentioning is City of Lost Children. Which brings to mind Dark City which also was definitely an interesting movie.

I wouldn't categorize this one as disturbing. Definetely bazaar & Unique though. Missing this one is equivalent to a sci-fi movie fan missing the matrix.

That and Hostel were the only 2 movies I ever felt that way about.

Salton Sea was very disturbing but good.

Hostel. It wasn't scary at all but it definitely fits the requirements of sick and twisted. That movie is simply fucked up.

I see some have mention a few David Cronenburg movies... i'll add to that Dead Ringers.

Pi
1984

None of these are a gorefest or outright terrifying... just weird, but good.

edit- probably the most "twisted, terrifying, genuinely unsettling movie" i've seen was Faces of Death. Well, i didn't watch it all... not my type of thing. My roommate at the time watched it.

I have acquired: Gummo and City of God and an enormous bottle of Grey Goose for this evening.

So far Gummo seems like WTF!?

Wolfenstein 3D after getting a soundcard for the first time, I had the speaker volume on a bit too loud. I got surprised by a guard yelling "Spion!" or something in German and nearly fell out of my chair.

As for movies, The Deer Hunter and the Russian Roulette scenes were fairly disturbing..

I remember that. My first soundcard game was also Wolfenstein3D. The first time I heard a door open I thought "that is so freaking REAL!".
