What is an ITX system good for?

Like the title says.

I'm interested in the Thermaltake Mozart TX. Which allows you to have a full size ATX/BTX system as well as an ITX system in one. But i'm a little confuse as to what good the ITX could be used for.

It's just another variation on the size of a motherboard. A mini-itx board can fit into any atx/micro-atx case.

http://www.mini-itx.com/

Buying a case of that mammoth size, then putting in a mini-itx board would be, well, rather dumb. But no doubt it would fit if you wanted.

That case fits both a ATX/BTX AND a ITX motherboard.

Kinda useless, but cool.

The newer Via/Cyrix CPUs are capable of playing DVDs running the little display, acting like a Tivo and other things you can then offload from the main mobo. I don't think anyone will consider using one of those as the only mobo in that case.

Why leave an E6300 and nvidia 7800gt running overnight to download some TV shows... I use a 12W cpu for that stuff.

I had one that i was planning on using as a carputer. You can boot a slimmed down OS from a CF card...pretty smooth overall, but I'm lazy.

Then you should switch to an X1900 for 20x the folding performance!

I thought about that... my HTPC will be used to encode HDTV, and i doubt the itx can handle that. The DVB-S cards, even the ones with hardware encoders on them, for HDTV encoding, uses software mode.

I'm thinking that if i slap in a RAID5 card, i can use the itx as a NAS type of thing. I already have 6 HDDs off just my Asus P5W-DH, but i could definitely use more space. I was thinking the Asus P5W-DH, which current has an E6300@2.7, would handle all my HTPC and gaming. And then the itx, using 4x500GB drives in RAID5 (with one as parity), would be used for storage.

One could pop $299.00 for This NVIDIA Mini-ITX mobo.....

Throw in a Turion, and you could have a pretty bad-ass (but expensive :Q ) Mini-ITX secondary in the Mozart TX.

BTW.. I have the Mozart TX, and am getting ready to throw it together with some watercooling goodness. It is a pretty nice case. I did not like it at first, but it kind of grew on me. I enjoy having plenty of room for the watercooling gear, and lots of airflow options with low-noise 120mm fans.
