What is Civilization IV?

I have become interested in this game lately and wonder what it really was like. Is it an RTS? RPG? It almost looks like Red Alert, but I don't know. I only hear good things about it. So what is single player/multiplayer like and how do they differ?

TBS - Turn Based Strategy. Civ IV has been redesigned with multiplayer in mind so SP/MP differ by the extreme randomness of human or cpu opponents. Basically you build a civilization from the ground up, researching technologies, founding cities, managing economies, conquering other civs with your armies or culture, and having fun all the way through.

its a game of monkey fight ! a must buy monkey go crazy and invade other monkey Territory. Monkey needs to build his crazy Civilization into awesome warzone where any monkey that Defies the monkeylord command ... then that monkey than shell get a monkeylord's execution death. its such a monkey game but the game also has ninjas too They are hired by monkey to do the dirty work. Its also got the best monkey turn based multiplayer i have ever seen.

It's a cool game and looks great at 1920 x 1200.

Civ is for some. Not all gamers like Civ because it involves extreme almost backbreaking micromanagement. But if you get into it, days can pass, and you've still not eaten . I find that I have only been playing Civ4 for the last few months. My copies of Farcry/HL2/Guild wars are laying to waste. God bless Sid!

I'm really looking forward to play this, I never played Civ III, since I didn't like it. But the IV seems like it has takken the best from the previous and added some new cool stuff.
I think that the Civilization series and Heroes of Might and Magic series are accountable for more than 70% of my total computergaming hours.
