It does make me wonder where their benchmark data for the comparisons is coming from. If they're doing the benchmarks and have all the data, they why aren't they writing the reveiews. If they're not doing the benchmarking, then where are they getting that data.

Fake benchmarks? I wouldn't put it past the new anandtech to post fake benchmarks.

You will see 480 before you see 1080/1070. It's unorthodox, but there was no sense in delaying 480 as well.

If phones are your thing, they got 0 day launch coverage of apple stuff, and throw in some android phone reviews as well, so I guess they want to be the go to place for phone reviews.

If your thing is GPUs, look elsewhere, there is no beating around the bush about the extreme lateness of the missing full reviews.
I know @Ryan Smith reads this thread, as is obvious by the quote above, but, there has been no more communication from him about the matter, or how the site is changing to something that is totally different from the years before.

Yeah truly sad, ive been around since before these forums on the old board, but im currently looking for a new forums that keeps up to date with new PC hardware, its become apparent anandtech is no longer it. They just keep the lies flowing like you quoted above to try and keep people around but actions speak louder than words and the reviews are still missing.

AnandTech (main site) has become irrelevant to those looking to make hardware purchasing decisions.

You mean you don't like the 2-3 mechanical keyboard reviews we get per week? I know that I quiver in anticipation of the prospect of the next wholly-identical device review of the previous device.


It seems to me that either the primary staff has been gutted, and/or much of the focus (due probably entirely to Purch influence) has been shifted to mainstream consumer devices--phones and the next overpriced mac junk that, for reasons, requires an endless amount of speculation weeks and months prior to its arrival.

While the work on CPU/GPU/MoBo reviews and benchmarks is still second-to-none (English language, anyway), imo, these are just few and far between and arrive far too late to be all that relevant to consumers that want to upgrade close to refresh cycles.

Well, from time to time they test useless garbage like that TEC cooler that everyone saw it's poor performance coming from a mile, well except the reviewer which missused the little time writing staff has for making actual hardware reviews (the 10% of the time they are not following phones/tablets).

PS: I see hardware.fr for CPU reviews, because of their app repertoire and some useful IPC comparisons, and PCGH.de for gpus.

Use google translate / chrome but they do the most indepth testing and actually do IQ checks and frame time testing as well

Tech Report used to be great, but they're being hit by the "Anand-Effect" as I like to call it -- once Scott left, things have gone down hill. And now there's a massive conflict of interest at TR given that Scott Wasson works for AMD but still owns the site.

I am not confident that they can remain truly objective, even if the good people there do their best to be objective.

Now, why would any company bother to send them any PC related stuff, if all they will do with it is put it on some shelf collecting dust?

Made an account just to revive this thread. Been a reader of the site for many years, but I got the ask the question: what the hell is going on, seriously? As of today, more than 1 month has passed since the new Macbook Pros were released and we get nothing!

I really don't get it. Anandtech was an Alexa top 1000 tech website. That's literally a gold mine. We're talking millions of dollars revenue and an easy, steady income. Who abandons their cash cow like that? Apple almost ditching their entire mac division was bad enough, now the tech sites are going away as well? And the timing feels weird as well - PC gaming is booming, the esports scene is thriving and people are still investing lots in technology. Intel might have had a few hiccups in recent years, but other than that, the industry seems to be doing well.
