Hi All and Happy New Year,

I am interested in setting up my computer to my TV in a den. I have an older Samsung 55 inch DLP 1080p TV I would like to use. I will be moving my gaming PC next to the TV and plugging it in via HDMI. I just had some questions though.

1) What are people using for wireless keyboard and mouse? I would rather not use my wired stuff if possible, but I also don't want to deal with input lag. Is there a good KB/Mouse combo that are just perfect for this? I know a wireless controller would work, but I play a lot of twitch PC games along with MMO and RTS.

2) What do you put in your lap or on the side to keep the keyboard and mouse strait and comfortable? No point to moving to the couch if I can't use them comfortably.

3) Any reason to add a remote to control things? I already have a WD Media player hooked up for streaming so I won't be watching movies through the computer.

Any advice or thoughts to this setup that anyone can think of?

Thanks

I've done this some years ago already. I find Logitech wireless mouse/keyboards - separate, not combos! - to be top-notch. No lag whatsoever.

I don't use any lap trays myself, the keyboard is sturdy enough (and the mouse works on the chair's hand rest).

If you have a mouse and keyboard, no need for a remote - most media players can interpret the mouse wheel as a volume control, and the keyboard offers plenty of play control shortcuts and options.

Do you have any good models of mice and keyboards. My couch is in sort of C sectional. So not sure what to do about the mouse. Maybe mouse pad on the couch?

Get a Logitech MX Anywhere mouse.
And a simple K360 keyboard.
Use them with a single Unified receiver.

Thanks for that information. I like the smallness of the keyboard and that fact they use the same receiver.

One more question is it possible to have this running with a wired mouse and keyboard also plugged in?

Yes. But, if you need to use config software for them, you need to choose one to have such installed for.

I've had good luck with the Logitech 700 series combination.

Also realize that you may not be able to make out text as well as you do up close on a monitor. You will also experience lag if you want to play games. I do it to run my driving simulator with a wheel and a spare seat, but it's not that satisfying computing on a TV screen IMO.

Maybe get a TV dinner tray or rolling bedside table to give you a platform for KB and mouse.

I've been using the MS Wireless 3000 for over two years and really like it. Flawless operation, good range and decent battery life.
Edit: And I've never noticed any lag whatsoever.

I use a mouse pad but you probably don't have to.
When in a chair I put the mouse pad on my thigh.

I like my keyboard low (easier on the arms) so prefer it in my lap instead of on any desk anyway.
Right now my laptop is on the coffee table, the keyboard is on my lap and the mouse pad on the couch next to me. Totally relaxed and comfortable.

I'll never go back to a desk again.

Mine is a K400r (Logitech). I decided to buy one so I can avoid solving a problem otherwise requiring two (interfering) green-button remotes, and I vaguely had in mind to use it for playing games in which I feel comfortable using a keyboard.

For the games, I thought it just seemed slightly "laggy." Too many crashes in GRID2. I'll try and work with it some more, and maybe consider a "700-series" Logitech? Otherwise, for controlling Media Center -- it works fine once you know which keys to use . . .
