Well, as a Seattle resident I know that when I want to have a good time, nothing beats a good old fashioned PNW rape-fest. It's as ubiquitous as the salmon and the Sound.

We usually operate around the Apple store.

4. Don't know how often I'll be down there but I'll keep it in mind. I dunno. I've had a few places' "philly cheesesteak" and it's not even close
7. Yea thanks to the architecture of the stadium. Not the fans. I'm sorry....visit a city with real, rowdy fans. As a Dallas fan in Philly, I didn't wear Cowboys clothes in public for legitimate fear of physical harm. They're crazy. I don't need a 12th man flag to tell me that.

I'm sure there's crime in Seattle...there's crime in every city. But I wouldn't really call it a problem here.

In my limited Seattle experience, I've agreed with everything Deeko's said so far.

I'm a Bay Area native and have some fellow BA native friends that've moved up there. All but one of them have moved back, driven by the need for sunshine. So if you don't need sunshine you should be good.

If you've done the bay area/downtown sf, then you won't be overwhelmed by the metro seattle area, and will probably love its offerings as well as the surrounding areas.

edit: I should say that nothing really beats a summer in Washington. There aren't many nice days, but the ones you get are very good.

This is a pretty good description - the summers are definitely awesome. However, rain in the winter means snow in the mountains. Take up skiing or snowboarding if you haven't yet.

I was not an outdoor person until I went on my first hike in the cascades.

Hmm, I see people cross the street all the time when it's displaying "Don't Walk." Must be the area.

All the major Northwest cities are awesome (Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria)

My wife is from Seattle and other than the horrible traffic and sprawl (compared to Portland) it's a great city. Sucks they're losing the Sonics, but if you are into outdoor recreation, don't mind a little rain and hate temps +90F, its hard to beat Seattle.

I spent a year and a half up there on a temp job assignment 6 months ago. As people have said above, expect gloomy/overcast/light rain type weather for the majority of the year (7-9) months and it can be especially brutal in the winter since it is located at such a high latitude and the sun will be gone by 4pm. Summer time weather is unbeatable though, mid 70s low 80s, clear skies, no smog, and daylight until 10 pm. If you like to snowboard/ski, there is some great resorts like an hr and a half away.

I lived in kirkland which is just north of redmond. The redmond/bellevue area is very nice and probably the most expensive place to live outside of the nice skyrises in downtown Seattle, reminded me of orange county where I am from. They have great parks up there, check out mary moor especially if you have a dog since the dog park there is pretty awesome. Traffic can be brutal in the the redmond area during rush hour, so try to live as close to work as possible. My wife's commute from kirkland to redmond in the mornings took 30+ minutes (8 miles), while my commute from kirkland to everett (going north and 25 miles) took 25 minutes.

People also tend to drive slower, 70 mph or so in the fast lane.

Compared to what? An empty cornfield? You show me any stat that has Seattle high on a crime list compared to other cities its size and I will stfu. You are talking out of your ass.

As for the OP, don't move here, everything sucks, us white people have enough problems as it is. For instance, I have to walk more than 3 minutes for coffee in the morning, very inconvenient.

Redmond isn't a bad place to live. It's a nice suburb.

You can go in to Seattle to do stuff, lots of life there.

So much to do, and living in Redmond is great.

Get used to bums though.

If you are gonna work on the Eastside, then find a place on the Eastside. The two bridges are hellholes during rush hours.
On the weekends, you can drive to the Seattle side for happenings, also downtown Kirkland has lots of bars.
Downtown Seattle can be ghetto, even with all the luxury high rise condos. Do not goto Pioneer Square at night by yourself.

I don't know if this matters to you. Having lived in both SoCal and Seattle, I find that Seattle has better racial integration. Keep in mind this is a perspective of an asian male. California has a lot more asians and Mexicans to be sure, but they seem more clique-ist. The separation of groups more prominent in CA. For some reason people of different ethnicities intermingle at a more comfort level in Seattle than SoCal and in general people are friendlier.

Seattles ok. For a Vancouver wannabe, but since that's another Country, Seattle will just have to do for you.

Probably a lot of homeless teenagers, grungy rockers with umbrellas, and software developers who like coffee. Just guessing.

high suicide and depression rate there; not many people get their Vitamin D (lack of sun exposure due to high chance of it being overcast today...again...for two weeks straight).

I was under the impression that Seattle was one of the safest large cities. I should be safer than any large city in Cali right?

Yea I noticed that too. Philly was much more segregated.
