What is Sony Up To With the PS2

Have you guys seen this thing recently? I saw one of the latest setups for it... basically it's just a computer. A cheap, incredible good graphics machine.. They have mice and everything for it. Do you guys think this is the way consoles should go and do you think it can compete with PC's (or vice-versa)?

I was tempted to pick up the PS2 with GT3 bundle for $303 from Buy.com Even if I didn't play the console games that much it has a built-in DVD Player which I could use on my 27" Toshiba Cinema Series TV. I have 3 dilemmas though:

1) I'd probably only watch 1 DVD a month, that leaves well over 200 still shrink wrapped DVDs.
2) When the GameCube and X-Box are released PS2 prices will probably be slashed.
3) There's talk about a newer model coming out with a hard drive, broadband adapter built-in and whatever other firmware updates, innovations and whatever else.

Besides I don't really NEED a PS2 so I'll just keep thinking "what if"

PC's are upgradeable... they will never compete with PC's... simple as that.

I believe that the GT3 game is going to have a firmware update with it. That is what I was told by a serious GTer.
I also saw (this was published at my work) that Sony had joined forces with some ISP (can't remember which one-not aol) to provide the much anticipated online support of the machine.

The XBOX is basically a PC anyway, I hope we don't get OS crashes, hehe that would suck

this is the reason MS developed xbox... as part of their monopoly sustaining plan. they don't want the ps2 becoming the center of the home's digital world, they want the PC to be it. so, the dev xbox to keep ps2 sales low.

Now sega is dead, nintendo is trying to stay alive, sony popped up out of nowhere, and microsoft is going to try to kill everything.

Ya, microsoft seems to have a bad habit of killing things in their way, huh? They really piss me off.. First they come into a new market, then they throw billions into their own product, then they level the competition... then they move on

They are also working with Sega now on that as well.
