For common OTC, my experience is
cetirizine (Zrtec) > loratidine (Claritin) > Diphenhydramine (Benedryl)

Fexofenadine (Allegra) never worked for me. Allegra D (with the decongestant) opened up the nasal passages but then you have to worry about the side effects of that (blood pressure)

I used Zyrtec for a couple years, then this spring it stopped working and I tried Allegra. Then I tried combining Zyrtec and Allegra. Finally when it all stopped working I just started getting allergy shots a couple months ago. I wish I'd done this years ago. Allergy shots are saving me from hell.

The Kirlkland Aller-Flex (Fexofenadine) works well for me. Claritin makes me drowsy and and not as effective. Zyrtec worked at one point but all of sudden it stopped, perhaps I took it for too long. Now I only take Fexofenadine when absolutely necessary and I have not need to take it for the summer but I know once it starts there is no stopping until winter.

I've used OTC junk in the past and it never worked for me -- i have horrible, deblitating seasonal allergies.

Few years ago, allergist gave me prescription for Levocetirizine 5mg. things are a miracle.

I will recommend OTC Flonase too. Couple shots of that help out a ton.

You realize you're just taking zyrtec, right? You're taking only the active enantiomer, but it's still just zyrtec. This is basically what's done when a patent expires.

Step 1. Create racemic mixture of chiral molecule
Step 2. Patent the new drug.
Step 3. Profit
Step 4. Patent expires
Step 5. Make "new" drug by discarding the inactive enantiomer
Step 6. New patent!
Step 7. Release "new" drug and cite fewer side effects
Step 8. Profit again!

Tried Claritin D?

For me, it knocks everything the F out, but never, ever take it at night or before bed. It keeps you the hell awake for 12 hours.

You need something with a D at the end like Claritin-D. It makes a huge difference.

Every single allergy pill I have ever tried has always done a number on me.. Made me seriously tired even when claiming to be non-drowsy.

I now use nasacort and very happy with the results of my allergy symptoms decreasing while not feeling the lethargy of the pills.

I can't comment on flonase, but I can highly recommend Nasacort!

Sinus rinse to start...
Then Flonase. I live allergy free now. I only have to use one shot per nostril every three days. If I go to w dusty area like the desert, I'll use it anyway on a skip day.

How can you claim to be allergy free if you are still taking something? If you are allergy free then stop taking it you addict!

Benedryl at night even after it wears off should lower your allergies during the day.

I really think the best defense is going to be cleaning the air if your allergies are that bad. Get a standalone HEPA (Ie real paper) air filter, and replace the cabin filter in your car and use the recirculator. etc. etc.

Do you happen to wear silicone contacts BTW?

Symptom free? How about that? How could you not surmise that? Or you're just being a dick?
