What is the best car alarm

I need one with keyless entry. I was thinking of the Prestige Plat 410. Anyone know anything?

prestige systems can take up to 30 secs to arm itself. i recommend a viper 600esp or codealarm.

easily fixed with a simple mod: declaw, plug orifices with cork

definitely go with either a clifford or viper model. each of the different variations will give you a slight difference in features (extended range, proximity sensor, impact sensor, remote start, etc.) but you'll be fine if you snag anything tagged by either. make sure you get a backup siren or backup battery and you'll be ok, the more sirens the better. you can have internal sirens hidden inside the dash for added protection.

Isn't there some whacked out company that makes an anti-theft/carjack device that delivers a painful but nonlethal shock?
A paging two-way alarm is pretty cool... but any alarm that prevents break-ins is best.

my friend and i have alot of arguments over this, what good is a paging two way alarm?

i'd say that's only useful if

a. your car is parked VERY close to you
b. you are VERY big or
c. you have a gun

i mean if you're at the movies and your pager goes off, wtf are you gonna do run 5 minutes out to your car, only to see that it was a false alarm? or take 5 minutes to get to where your car was? and what if you see the guy jackin yo car and he's like 1030279847x bigger than you or is armed? i'd rather have an uber alarm =P

doesn't the pager system tell you if the window or door is broken etc? I mean you can tell if it was a truck rolling by or whatnot.

u can buy a crappy ass alarm..but f your install is awesome, then it doesn't matter.

it's ALL about the install.

Croton's got it right, i failed to mention that. you can have a $900 alarm install but if it sucks then you're the dream target of any thief. alarm install is 90% and 10% equip IMHO. make sure you get the job done right, have the brain hidden well and inaccessible, hidden wiring, etc.

Doesn't matter how well the install is, if you don't have an extra battery you're screwed. My alarm got disabled by yanking the positive off the battey, after that it was happy days on my stereo.

Whatever you do don't get that alarm that sounds like a police siren then an ambulance then a fire truck. Try and get one with a unique sound. I had one in my Honda Prelude SH, I think it was a Viper, and whenever that sound went off, I would freak out. I would run down the block to see if it was my car in the middle of the night. It usually wasn't but its annoying as hell when your alarm sounds like everyone elses.
